It’s also a place for discovery and collaboration with other creators worldwide. Explore web, mobile, and PC-based apps that provide efficient solutions, integrating cameras with shooting and production apps and services.

61.0MP Full-Frame Back-Illuminated CMOS Sensor
The newly developed Exmor R CMOS image sensor offers incomparable high resolution. Thanks to its back-illuminated design, it provides high sensitivity and low noise, despite the sensor’s extraordinarily high pixel count of 61.0MP.

The Latest Image Processing Engine
The BIONZ X image processing engine, along with the front-end LSI, maximizes the performance of the high-resolution sensor, delivering up to 15 stops of dynamic range.

Wide Standard ISO 100-32000 Range
Despite the increased pixel count, the α7R IV maintains a high standard ISO of 32000 and reduces noise in both low and mid-sensitivity ranges. As a result, it achieves high-quality imagery.

In-Body 5-Axis Image Stabilization
The in-body 5-axis image stabilizer algorithm is optimized to maximize the performance of the 61.0MP image sensor. This ensures reliable handheld shooting, equivalent to a 5.5-stop faster shutter speed.

Shoot in Absolute Silence
Silent shooting offers a distinct advantage in quiet environments and eliminates vibration that can cause camera shake and blur. By using a vibration-free shutter, the camera maximizes the α7R IV’s extremely high resolution, ensuring crisp, clear images.

Blur-Reducing Structure
To take full advantage of the α7R IV’s incredible resolution, Sony re-engineered the shutter unit with dampened screws to absorb shutter shock. This, combined with an enhanced image stabilizer algorithm, significantly reduces blur and reliably captures pin-sharp details.

Shake-Free Remote Shutter Release
By using the optional wireless remote controller (RMT-P1BT), you can operate the camera remotely, avoiding shake caused by pressing the shutter button. This ensures the high resolution of the image sensor is fully utilized.

5.76-Million-Dot UXGA OLED Tru-Finder
The 5.76-million-dot electronic viewfinder reproduces fine details with approximately 1.6 times the resolution of the α7R III. You can select “High” quality mode for high-precision realism while suppressing moiré and jaggies, allowing for better concentration. With a 120/100fps frame rate, it’s easy to track moving subjects.

Striking Response:

The Highest-Level Burst Speed in Its Class
Despite its remarkable image resolution, the α7R IV maintains a shooting speed of up to 10fps with a mechanical shutter (or up to 8fps in live-view continuous shooting mode). This allows you to capture decisive moments—such as the motion of wild animals—with subtle details made possible only by the 61.0MP resolution.

Useful 26.2MP with APS-C Cropping
Thanks to its extraordinary image resolution, the α7R IV ensures that even after cropping a full-frame image into APS-C size, you can still achieve approximately 26.2 megapixels of high-resolution images. This makes it ideal for bird photography, where cropping is often required to magnify captured images.

Wide AF Coverage
The new image sensor provides wide and high-density AF coverage with 567 phase-detection AF points (approximately 99.7% height and 74.0% width). Additionally, 425-point contrast-detection AF supports precision focusing.

Fast AF Despite Higher Resolution
With the enhanced Fast Hybrid AF, the α7R IV captures subjects in remarkable detail, delivering swift autofocus even in dim lighting.

Steadfast AF Tracking Further Improved
Increased AF points, a wider coverage of the AF sensor, and an improved AF algorithm further enhance subject-tracking performance, ensuring consistent shooting even during complex or sudden movements.

High-Precision AF in Underlit Conditions
Advanced AF algorithms contribute to precise focusing at light levels as low as EV-38. The “Focus Priority in Aperture Drive” option ensures more accurate focusing in dim lighting, even when the aperture is stopped down.

Shoot Up to 68 Images Continuously
With 1.5 times larger buffer memory, the α7R IV maintains a burst shooting speed of up to 68 images. In APS-C shooting mode, you can capture approximately three times more photos than in full-frame shooting mode.

Dual Media Slots, Both Supporting UHS-II
Both SLOT 1 and SLOT 2 support UHS-I and UHS-II for fast data writing. The α7R IV can simultaneously or relay record, separate RAW/JPEG data and stills/movies, and copy data between cards.

Extend Shooting to Professional Length
The α7R IV uses a high-capacity NP-FZ100 battery. For longer shooting sessions, combine it with the optional VG-C4EM Vertical Grip, which holds two NP-FZ100 batteries. This doubles the number of shots you can take compared to using a single battery.

Rely on Smart AI-Based Real-Time Tracking
AI-based Real-Time Tracking greatly increases your success rate in challenging shots. Simply designate a subject, press the shutter halfway, and rely on the camera to track it. The “Face/Eye Priority in AF” function automatically switches tracking between the face and eye when the subject is a person.

Technology Basis for Real-Time Tracking
Sony’s proprietary AI subject recognition technology processes large amounts of data captured by the image sensor in real time. This enables accurate tracking of moment-to-moment subject changes by using factors like color, pattern, subject distance, and human face and eye information.

Real-Time Eye AF with Animal Eye Tracking for More Success
With an improved algorithm, the α7R IV now supports both animal and human eye tracking, enabling fast, precise, automatic detection and tracking. This feature greatly increases your success in capturing images of animals in the wild or pets at home, even when obstacles appear or the camera’s orientation changes.

Maximized Productivity in Professional Portrait Shooting: Real-Time Eye AF:

Evolution of Portraiture
Real-Time Eye AF represents the evolution of portrait photography. This AI-powered technology provides immediate and accurate eye detection and tracking, ensuring crisp, clear focus on the subject’s face—even when capturing fast-moving models. This allows photographers to focus on composition, resulting in a smoother workflow.

Instant Focusing on an Eye
When Face/Eye Priority in AF is active, you can simply half-press the shutter, press the AF-ON button, or a custom button. The camera automatically focuses on the subject’s eye.

Right/Left Eye Selection to Meet Your Needs
Now you can select a specific eye—left or right—before or during shooting via a custom button. This enables you to focus on composition, lighting, and other essential details.

Works with Real-Time Tracking for Eye-Catching Portraits
Combining Real-Time Eye AF with Real-Time Tracking ensures precise tracking, even with dynamic subject movement. This teamwork enables accuracy, making portrait shooting more comfortable.

  • Expandable to ISO 50 to 102400 for stills.
  • CIPA standards. Pitch/Yaw shake only. Planar T* FE 50mm F1.4 ZA lens. Long exposure NR off.
  • Up to 10 fps in continuous “Hi+” mode, and up to 8 fps in continuous “Hi” mode. Maximum fps will depend on flash and camera settings.
  • ISO 100 equivalent, with F2.0 lens in the AF-S mode.
  • In JPEG (Extra fine / Fine) or compressed RAW data mode.
  • Will be activated when [Tracking] is set in the [Focus Area] menu. When [Animal] is selected as a detectable subject, Real-time Tracking cannot be activated.
  • Depending on shooting scene and subject condition, performance may not be fully effective.
  • Movie files cannot be transferred. FTP transfer is not available during movie recording.
  • Rear curtain sync is not available with optical wireless flash units.
  • Does not support full functional compatibility with some camera models.
  • The Imaging Edge (Remote/Viewer/Edit) desktop application is required for compositing. Image compositing may not be successful if camera or subject movement causes blur. The use of a tripod is recommended, as is the use of PC tethered control or a remote commander (when PC tethered control is not being used) where possible. Uncompressed RAW and silent mode are automatically selected for Pixel Shift Multi shooting. Some restrictions apply to flash and other devices.
  • Not guaranteed to be 100% dust and moisture proof.

This function does not work when using bulb shooting and movie shooting modes.
  • Depending on conditions of the shooting scene and subject, autofocus may fail in some cases. When Real-time Tracking is activated, “Animal” cannot be selected as a detectable subject.
  • With SSM or SAM lenses only. With the LA-EA3 Mount Adapter. Focal-plane phase-detection AF not supported for movie recording. AF-C can only be used when the “Phase detection” AF system is selected, but focus is fixed at the first frame during continuous shooting in any mode other than “Continuous: Lo” (Hi+, Hi, Mid).
