Overview
A Full-Fledged Toolkit for Your Imagination
The α6600 brings together key features that cater to nearly every situation you might face—fast autofocus, steady image stabilization, outstanding image quality, a high-capacity battery, and powerful 4K HDR (HLG) movie shooting.
Ultra-Fast AF and Continuous Shooting:
Reliable and Persistent AF
The camera features a wide AF area, super-fast AF speed, and steady subject tracking. With densely distributed focus points covering around 84% of the image area, the Fast Hybrid AF system combines phase-detection and contrast-detection AF to achieve a world-leading 0.02-sec acquisition speed. Additionally, when subjects move, the system activates AF points around the subject, ensuring precise tracking.
Fast Continuous Shooting with AF/AE at Up to 11fps
You can shoot at up to 11fps with minimal display lag or 8fps with live view, capturing up to 1164 shots in JPEG (Standard) at one time. The electronic viewfinder lets you preview your settings clearly, and the virtually real-time display will elevate your action shots to a whole new level.
Silent Continuous Shooting:
Shoot Without Disrupting the Scene
In situations where silence matters, the α6600 offers silent shooting at up to 8fps, even in AF-C mode. When combined with Real-time Eye AF or Real-time Tracking, the camera dramatically expands your shooting options.
Real-Time Tracking and Real-Time Eye AF:
Start Tracking Instantly
You can activate Real-time Tracking by half-pressing the shutter or by simply touching the subject. Alternatively, you can assign “Tracking On” to a custom key for even faster activation.
AI-Based Subject Tracking
The camera’s tracking system uses unique AI-based subject recognition algorithms, processing spatial data such as color, brightness, and depth. This allows it to track the subject’s eye and face in real-time, even at high speeds.
Real-Time Eye AF for Humans and Animals
Even when your portrait subject is moving, Real-time Eye AF provides continuous, stable eye detection and tracking, keeping your scene in focus. Furthermore, the same eye-detection algorithms that excel with human portraits now work with animals, ensuring stunning pet and wildlife photos.
Right/Left Eye AF Selection by Touch
Now, you can prioritize either the subject’s left or right eye with just a simple touch on the camera’s monitor, providing greater control over your focus.
Smooth Focus Transition
Depending on your tracking conditions, the camera will automatically and seamlessly switch focus between the subject’s face and eyes, ensuring precise tracking.
Real-Time Tracking Activation with Touch Tracking
The Touch Tracking feature allows you to touch the monitor to activate Real-time Tracking, whether for stills or movies.
5-Axis Optical Image Stabilization:
Control Camera Shake
The α6600 compensates for angular shake, also known as pitch and yaw shake, which is common when shooting at longer focal lengths. In addition, it stabilizes camera shake along the horizontal and vertical axes, especially useful during high-magnification macro shooting. For long-duration handheld movie shooting, the camera compensates for roll or rotational shake.
How Optical Image Stabilization Works
The α6600 uses a 5-axis in-body optical image stabilization system adapted from our full-frame cameras. This system detects and corrects shake along five axes, including angular (pitch and yaw), horizontal, vertical, and rotational. The stabilization is equivalent to using a 5-step faster shutter speed, enabling clearer, more stable images.
Magnificent Images:
High Image Quality by Design
The 24.2-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, in combination with the latest-generation BIONZ X image processor, ensures efficient light collection and low-noise performance even at high ISO settings. The camera produces superb image clarity and remarkable textural reproduction.
Low-Noise Performance for High ISO Sensitivity
With a sensitivity range of ISO 100-32000 (expandable to ISO 50-102400), the α6600 offers excellent low-noise performance, ensuring high-quality images even in dimly lit environments.
Improved Color Reproduction
The α6600’s algorithms, derived from our acclaimed full-frame cameras, deliver faithful color reproduction. This includes improved skin-tone rendering and vibrant colors of flowers, while also minimizing jaggies and false colors.
True-to-Life 4K HDR (HLG) Movie Recording:
Versatile Movie-Making Capabilities
Full-pixel readout with no pixel binning enables high-resolution 4K movie recording. Furthermore, the new HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) picture profile supports instant HDR delivery, while sophisticated image stabilization enhances your videos.
Keep the Focus on Your Subject
The camera’s Fast Hybrid AF system, Real-time Tracking, and Real-time Eye AF work together to maintain steady, reliable focus on your subject, leaving you to focus on creative filmmaking.
Interval Shooting for Time-Lapse Movies
The α6600 features built-in Interval Shooting for time-lapse videos, with selectable intervals from 1 to 60 seconds. The resulting high-resolution images can be combined on a PC and viewed with a variable-speed preview function on the camera.
S-Log Shooting Support
The S-Log3 and S-Log2 Gamma curves offer a wide dynamic range, up to 1300% of Rec.709. This minimizes whiteout and blackout, providing a broader scope for color grading during post-production.
Slow & Quick Motion Recording
You can record movies in slow motion (up to 5x) or quick motion (up to 60x) directly in the camera. Alternatively, you can use 120fps Full HD video for high-quality slow-motion footage in post-production.
Extend Your Reach with External Touch Operations
Even when using external monitors, you can still access convenient touch operations like Touch Focus and Touch Tracking on the α6600’s monitor.
Tell Your Stories in Your Own Way
Designed for powerful filmmaking, the α6600 enables professionals and enthusiasts to share their stories with the world. The 180°-tiltable display makes self-framing easy for vlogs or challenging shooting angles. Additionally, the external mic and headphone jacks support professional audio monitoring. The improved grip ensures comfortable, steady shooting for extended periods.
Advantages of Sony’s Lenses for Video Shooting
Using Sony’s E-mount lenses for video shooting provides four unique advantages, further enhancing your video creation experience.
Powerful, Reliable, Versatile: High-Capacity Z Battery for Long-Duration Shooting
The α6600 features the same high-capacity battery found in our full-frame cameras, ensuring longer shooting sessions while keeping the camera slim and portable.
Dust- and Moisture-Resistant Magnesium-Alloy Body
Built with a dust- and moisture-resistant magnesium alloy body, the α6600 withstands tough conditions while remaining lightweight and durable.
Customization Features
The α6600 offers 11 customizable buttons, each assignable to one of 91 functions. You can also assign functions to the control dial and wheel, while My Menu lets you register up to 30 different menu items for quick access.
