Overview

Support for Filmmaking

The FX30 captures stunning images with 6K oversampling and a true cinematic look. Thanks to its compact size, you can take it anywhere, and its sophisticated AF and stabilisation features allow you to focus on composition rather than the complexity of crews and rigging.

Cinema Line Look and Features:

Designed for Visual Storytelling

The FX30’s S-Cinetone picture profile gives you a beautiful cinematic look right out of the camera. Additionally, features like Dual Base ISO and Cine EI are designed to provide gorgeous images for cinematic shooting and workflow.

Drawing on the Cinema Line Heritage

With decades of experience in the film industry, Sony’s Cinema Line series of cameras combines film industry expertise with cutting-edge imaging technology.

Beautiful Imagery

The FX30’s back-illuminated Exmor R™ APS-C CMOS sensor captures unforgettable imagery with exceptional resolution and shallow depth of field. Through 6K oversampling, the camera compresses vast amounts of information into 4K recording and output. The BIONZ XR™ processing engine ensures natural gradations, realistic colour reproduction, low noise, and overall improved image quality.

S-Cinetone Provides a Cinematic Look Without Grading

The S-Cinetone picture profile offers cinematic colours, skin tones, and other visual aspects directly from the camera, eliminating the need for any post-production colour grading.

Infinite Possibilities of Expression with S-Log3

For precise colour matching and to take full advantage of the image sensor, the FX30 can shoot with an S-Log3 gamma curve. This enables you to access the FX30’s expansive colour gamut and 14+ stops of latitude, providing true cinematic image quality for post-production grading.

User LUTs Provide an Accurate Image Preview

You can apply custom LUTs, both preset and user-supplied, to the FX30’s LCD monitor and HDMI output. This gives you a better and more accurate preview of what your final image will look like.

10-bit 4:2:2 Recording for Greater Editing Latitude

The FX30 supports 10-bit 4:2:2 video recording internally, whether using Long GOP or All-Intra compression. This extra colour information enables you to produce fuller, more natural gradations in post-production.

Cine EI, Cine EI Quick, and Flexible ISO Modes

The FX30 provides flexible exposure options. Cine EI2 offers wide latitude and the highest possible image quality. Meanwhile, Cine EI Quick simplifies setup by automatically switching the camera’s base ISO. Flexible ISO gives you the greatest flexibility for exposure settings.

Dual Base ISO (ISO 800 / ISO 2500)

This feature allows you to manually set the base ISO to 2500 in low-light situations. Noise levels at both settings remain about the same, resulting in cleaner footage in challenging lighting.

Slow-Motion Images at Up to 120 Frames Per Second

The FX30 allows you to shoot 4K video at up to 120 frames per second with autofocus, enabling you to create smooth, up to 5x slow-motion imagery and expand your storytelling options.

Reliable AF Maintains Steady Focus

Sophisticated tracking features ensure that you can concentrate on your shoot. The FX30 offers stable AF and flexible focusing for a wide range of shooting situations. Wide-area AF provides tenacious subject tracking across nearly the entire frame, while Real-time Tracking leverages Sony’s AI-based subject recognition. Real-time Eye AF delivers precise focus on faces and eyes, tailored for humans, birds, and animals.

In-Body Image Stabilisation for Hand-Held Shooting

Active Mode6 provides a 5-axis image stabilisation system using a precision gyroscope sensor and optical compensation. This feature enables stable, hand-held 4K shooting without a gimbal.

Compensation for Focus Breathing

The FX30 provides in-camera Focus Breathing Compensation with compatible lenses, stabilising imagery by reducing the field-of-view shift that often occurs when adjusting focus. Additional compensation is available in post-production software, supported by camera metadata.
