Overview
Support for Filmmaking
The FX30 captures stunning images with 6K oversampling and a true cinematic look. Thanks to its compact size, you can take it anywhere, and its sophisticated AF and stabilisation features allow you to focus on composition rather than the complexity of crews and rigging.
Cinema Line Look and Features:
Designed for Visual Storytelling
The FX30’s S-Cinetone picture profile gives you a beautiful cinematic look right out of the camera. Additionally, features like Dual Base ISO and Cine EI are designed to provide gorgeous images for cinematic shooting and workflow.
Drawing on the Cinema Line Heritage
With decades of experience in the film industry, Sony’s Cinema Line series of cameras combines film industry expertise with cutting-edge imaging technology.
Beautiful Imagery
The FX30’s back-illuminated Exmor R™ APS-C CMOS sensor captures unforgettable imagery with exceptional resolution and shallow depth of field. Through 6K oversampling, the camera compresses vast amounts of information into 4K recording and output. The BIONZ XR™ processing engine ensures natural gradations, realistic colour reproduction, low noise, and overall improved image quality.
S-Cinetone Provides a Cinematic Look Without Grading
The S-Cinetone picture profile offers cinematic colours, skin tones, and other visual aspects directly from the camera, eliminating the need for any post-production colour grading.
Infinite Possibilities of Expression with S-Log3
For precise colour matching and to take full advantage of the image sensor, the FX30 can shoot with an S-Log3 gamma curve. This enables you to access the FX30’s expansive colour gamut and 14+ stops of latitude, providing true cinematic image quality for post-production grading.
User LUTs Provide an Accurate Image Preview
You can apply custom LUTs, both preset and user-supplied, to the FX30’s LCD monitor and HDMI output. This gives you a better and more accurate preview of what your final image will look like.
10-bit 4:2:2 Recording for Greater Editing Latitude
The FX30 supports 10-bit 4:2:2 video recording internally, whether using Long GOP or All-Intra compression. This extra colour information enables you to produce fuller, more natural gradations in post-production.
Cine EI, Cine EI Quick, and Flexible ISO Modes
The FX30 provides flexible exposure options. Cine EI2 offers wide latitude and the highest possible image quality. Meanwhile, Cine EI Quick simplifies setup by automatically switching the camera’s base ISO. Flexible ISO gives you the greatest flexibility for exposure settings.
Dual Base ISO (ISO 800 / ISO 2500)
This feature allows you to manually set the base ISO to 2500 in low-light situations. Noise levels at both settings remain about the same, resulting in cleaner footage in challenging lighting.
Slow-Motion Images at Up to 120 Frames Per Second
The FX30 allows you to shoot 4K video at up to 120 frames per second with autofocus, enabling you to create smooth, up to 5x slow-motion imagery and expand your storytelling options.
Reliable AF Maintains Steady Focus
Sophisticated tracking features ensure that you can concentrate on your shoot. The FX30 offers stable AF and flexible focusing for a wide range of shooting situations. Wide-area AF provides tenacious subject tracking across nearly the entire frame, while Real-time Tracking leverages Sony’s AI-based subject recognition. Real-time Eye AF delivers precise focus on faces and eyes, tailored for humans, birds, and animals.
In-Body Image Stabilisation for Hand-Held Shooting
Active Mode6 provides a 5-axis image stabilisation system using a precision gyroscope sensor and optical compensation. This feature enables stable, hand-held 4K shooting without a gimbal.
Compensation for Focus Breathing
The FX30 provides in-camera Focus Breathing Compensation with compatible lenses, stabilising imagery by reducing the field-of-view shift that often occurs when adjusting focus. Additional compensation is available in post-production software, supported by camera metadata.
A Creative Partner You Can Rely On:
Ready to Go Wherever You Shoot
The FX30’s compact and lightweight design makes it easy to operate with gimbals, drones, or a variety of other equipment. It’s built to withstand long shoots and perform in harsh conditions.
Compact, Lightweight Body:
Designed for Mobility and Comfortable Operation
Weighing just 646g with battery and memory card (951g with the XLR handle unit), the FX30 features a flat-top design suitable for handheld shooting or mounting on a gimbal. The camera grip ensures optimal flexibility, stability, and comfort for extended handheld shooting sessions.
Three Thread Holes in the XLR Handle Unit for Accessories
You can securely attach external monitors, recorders, batteries, video lights, extension grips, wireless microphone receivers, or other add-ons to the FX30’s XLR handle unit.
Reliable Operation for Long Shoots at 4K
The FX30’s highly efficient cooling system and stable power supply (from a high-capacity Z battery or via USB PD2) ensure reliable performance during extended shoots.
Streamlined Operational Control with New Main Menu
Quickly access frequently used features, such as frame rate and shutter speed, through a list-style main menu. You can assign the main menu to a custom button for quick access to essential parameters before shooting. Separate menus are optimized for both movies and stills.
Two CFexpress Type A and SD Card Compatible Media Slots
CFexpress Type A offers fast write/read speeds, making it ideal for 4K movie recording at high bit rates. Dual media slots enable relay or simultaneous recording.
Flexible High-Resolution Touch-Panel LCD Monitor
The side-opening, vari-angle rear monitor provides broad positioning freedom. Its brightness ensures easy outdoor viewing, and it features a swipe-to-access function menu.
Broad Connectivity in a Compact Body
The FX30 supports HDMI Type-A for external recorders and display devices, as well as USB Type-C®, Multi/Micro-USB, mic, headphone, and a Multi Interface Shoe with a built-in digital audio interface.
16-bit RAW Output via HDMI
For demanding workflows, you can output 16-bit RAW over HDMI to compatible external recorders. The RAW video output exceeds DCI-4K resolution at 4672 x 2628 [16:9].
Hardware and Software Versatility:
Expandable to Meet Your Needs
The FX30 accommodates a variety of lenses, audio sources, and post-production workflows, ensuring it meets your needs.
One Mount:
Connect Seamlessly with E-mount
The One Mount concept is based on Sony’s E-mount platform of interchangeable lenses. The FX30 is compatible with all E-mount lenses, allowing you to choose the right lens for any situation.
Choose Your Audio Input Source
The FX30’s XLR handle unit includes two XLR audio inputs, enabling quick and easy connection to a variety of external microphones for capturing high-quality audio.
Wireless Monitoring and Remote Control
By connecting a smartphone or tablet to the camera using the Monitor and Control app, you can wirelessly monitor, adjust exposure, and control focus on a larger screen.
Image Stabilisation and Easier Editing with Catalyst
The built-in gyro records camera-shake metadata, allowing you to stabilise handheld footage in post-production. Using Sony’s Catalyst Browse/Prepare application, you can balance shake compensation and image trimming levels effectively.
Creators’ Cloud Platform
Creators’ Cloud combines advanced Sony camera technology with cloud-based AI to support creative work from shooting to production. The platform fosters discovery and collaboration with other creators worldwide. It also offers web, mobile, and PC-based apps that integrate cameras with production solutions.
Creators’ App
The Creators’ App allows you to connect your Sony camera to the cloud, enhancing shooting and sharing functionality.
Pursuing a Sustainable Product Ecosystem
The FX30 incorporates environmentally conscious measures such as using recycled materials in production, reducing environmental impact throughout the supply chain, using renewable energy, and opting for recyclable non-plastic packaging materials.
Working Towards a Zero Footprint:
Environmental Measures with the FX30
The SORPLAS™1 material used in the construction of the FX30 is recyclable, durable, oil-resistant, and of high quality. Sony also uses recyclable materials wherever possible, ensuring performance and functionality without compromising the environment.
