The versatile 70-200mm telephoto zoom range captures distant subjects with excellent clarity and contrast. Its constant F4 maximum aperture keeps exposure consistent while zooming during movie recording. The lens also delivers half-macro capability throughout the entire zoom range, making it highly versatile for both stills and movies.

High Resolution and Smooth Bokeh

The advanced optical design combines AA and aspherical elements with three ED glass elements and Super ED glass. This combination delivers excellent resolution and contrast from corner to corner across the full 70-200mm range. A circular 9-blade aperture and carefully optimized spherical aberration create smooth full-frame bokeh while maintaining impressive sharpness, clarity, color, and contrast.

0.5x Magnification Throughout

The carefully balanced optical design provides 0.5x maximum magnification throughout the zoom range. Minimum focusing distance measures 0.26m at 70mm and 0.42m at 200mm. This half-macro capability gives you greater flexibility when capturing close subjects for both photography and movie production.

Fast AF and Refined Movie Control

Four high-thrust XD Linear Motors work with precision floating focus groups to deliver fast, accurate, and quiet autofocus. Autofocus speed increases by up to about 20% throughout the zoom range when shooting stills, while focus tracking continues during zooming. Linear Response MF provides direct, linear manual focus control, while advanced lens technology reduces focus breathing and focus and axial shift during zooming.

Compact Design and Teleconverter Support

The compact, lightweight design measures 82.2mm in diameter and 149.0mm in length at the wide end of the zoom range, while weighing 794g. An extending lens design improves portability, and a zoom lock switch helps prevent unwanted extension during transport. Compatible 2.0x and 1.4x teleconverters extend the maximum focal length to 400mm and 280mm. The 2.0x teleconverter also enables life-size 1:1 macro shooting throughout the zoom range, while the 1.4x teleconverter provides up to 0.7x macro magnification throughout.

The lens offers flexible control through AF/MF and OSS ON/OFF switches, a focus range limiter, and image stabilization mode selection. A dedicated Full Time DMF switch lets you engage manual focus instantly by rotating the focus ring while shooting in AF-C mode.
