Alpha 7C II Full-Frame Camera

The Sony α7C II combines a compact camera body with a 33.0-megapixel full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor, advanced AI-based subject recognition, and the BIONZ XR processing engine. It delivers detailed stills and movies, natural colors, low noise, and a wide 15-stop dynamic range. The α7C II also provides advanced video tools, accurate subject tracking, and flexible options for professional image creation.

Full-Frame Image Quality

The 33.0-megapixel full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor provides excellent image quality for stills and movies. Its wide 15-stop dynamic range supports detailed images across a broad range of tones. The BIONZ XR processing engine provides up to eight times more processing power than its predecessor, reducing processing latency while improving still-image and movie processing.

The camera’s AE algorithm works with the BIONZ XR engine to detect facial skin areas and adjust exposure for both stills and movies. This helps maintain consistent exposure when subjects appear in back light, shadows, direct sunlight, or face away from the camera. It also supports natural-looking skin tones, skies, and foliage.

AI Subject Recognition

The dedicated AI processing unit handles large amounts of data to improve subject recognition and expand the range of recognized subjects. Human pose estimation recognizes eyes, head positions, and body positions, helping the camera track people even when they face away or their faces become partially hidden.

The α7C II recognizes people, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains, and airplanes. Animal recognition can identify the eyes and heads of dogs, cats, and similarly featured animals, as well as some grazing and small animals. Bird recognition can identify bird eyes, heads, and bodies.

Real-time Tracking provides reliable subject tracking across a wider range of shooting situations. Select a subject and half-press the shutter button to begin tracking, allowing you to focus more on framing and composition.

Advanced Video Recording

The α7C II records 4K movies with full pixel readout without binning for detailed resolution, natural gradations, and beautiful color reproduction. Super 35mm mode supports 4K 60p/50p recording for smooth capture of fast-moving subjects.

In-camera 10-bit 4:2:2 recording works with Long GOP and All-Intra compression, providing smooth gradations for editing and color grading. S-Cinetone uses Sony’s Cinema Line color science to produce natural mid-tones, soft colors, and attractive highlights.

S-Log3 provides 14+ stops of latitude and supports S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.Cine color gamut settings. Custom LUT files can be applied to the camera monitor while recording with a Log gamma curve, allowing you to preview the processed appearance of your footage.

Creative Control

Creative Look provides 10 customizable presets for stills and movies. You can use the presets as they are or adjust up to eight parameters, including contrast, saturation, and shadows. Customized settings can be saved as Custom Look selections for later use.

Lossless RAW compression reduces file size without reducing image quality. The camera can shoot up to 27 frames in continuous bursts, with three lossless-compression image sizes available for different applications. A Light image quality option also generates less data for JPEG and HEIF images.

Advanced Framing and Focus

AI-based Auto Framing automatically crops the image for optimum framing during movie recording. The framing continues to adjust as the subject moves, helping create footage that looks as if a camera operator is following the subject. The feature also works when the camera operates remotely through Sony’s Creators’ App.

Breathing compensation uses Sony’s Clear Image Zoom technology to suppress changes in the angle of view during focus changes. This supports professional-looking rack focus and refocusing. Breathing metadata can also work with Sony Catalyst Browse/Prepare Plugin software during post-production.
