61MP Resolution and Image Quality

The Sony ILCE-7RM5 features a newly developed 35mm full-frame back-illuminated CMOS sensor with 61.0MP resolution. Its mirrorless design avoids mechanical mirror shock to help maximize image resolution. The enhanced BIONZ X image processor reproduces fine detail and reduces noise, with standard ISO sensitivity up to ISO 32000. A wide 15-stop dynamic range at low ISO sensitivity provides smooth shadow-to-highlight gradation, while Sony color reproduction delivers natural skin tones and vivid flower colors.

Stabilization, AF and Burst Shooting

5-axis optical in-body image stabilization provides up to a 5.5-stop shutter speed advantage. The electronic shutter enables silent, vibration-free shooting, while an internal damper structure reduces shutter vibration. Fast Hybrid AF combines 567-point phase detection and 425-point contrast detection, covering 99.7% of image height and 74.0% of width, with focusing down to EV-3. Real-time Tracking maintains focus using color, brightness, depth, face and eye information. Real-time Eye AF supports human eyes and movies, while Animal Eye AF tracks animals and pets. Mechanical shutter shooting reaches 10fps with AF/AE tracking and approximately 68 images per burst, while live-view shooting reaches 8fps. APS-C mode produces 26.2MP images and allows approximately three times more shots than full-frame shooting. Anti-flicker shooting detects fluorescent and other artificial-light flicker to reduce exposure and color inconsistencies.

Viewfinder, RAW and Pixel Shift

The 5.76-million-dot UXGA OLED Tru-Finder provides high-precision, high-brightness and high-contrast viewing. High Display Quality mode helps suppress moire and jaggies, while the 120/100fps High finder frame rate mode provides smoother motion. Fluorine coating helps remove dirt and fingerprints. The camera supports compressed and uncompressed 14-bit RAW output, including silent and continuous shooting. Pixel Shift Multi Shooting can combine 16 pixel-shifted images into an approximately 240.8MP image measuring 19,008 x 12,672 pixels. The system uses half-pixel and one-pixel sensor shifts to capture highly detailed architecture and artwork with reduced moire and color artifacts.

Movie, Media and Professional Workflow

Fast Hybrid AF provides smoother and more stable autofocus during movie recording. Touch Tracking lets you select a subject on the monitor, while AF-S activates quickly through the shutter button or AF-ON button. Two SD card slots support UHS-I and UHS-II and can record simultaneously, relay data, separate RAW and JPEG or stills and movies, and copy data between cards. Phase-detection AF also works with A-mount lenses through the LA-EA3 Mount Adapter. The camera supports studio flash through its sync terminal, plus slow sync, rear curtain sync and continuous flash shooting up to 10fps. Camera settings can be saved to memory cards, with up to 10 sets available for transfer to another camera of the same model and use with Imaging Edge Mobile.

Power and Custom Controls

The NP-FZ100 battery supports extended shooting, while USB Type-C and Multi/Micro USB ports allow external mobile batteries to power the camera. The optional VG-C4EM Vertical Grip holds two batteries, and the NPA-MQZ1K Multi Battery Adapter Kit can hold up to four. My Menu stores up to 30 frequently used functions, while custom menus with control illustrations make operation easier. Help information can be displayed from the menu screen.
