SEL1224GM  Ultra-Wide F2.8 G Master Zoom

The Sony SEL1224GM is a 12-24mm ultra-wide zoom lens with a constant F2.8 maximum aperture. Its 12mm angle of view creates dramatic perspectives that can emphasise distance and depth beyond normal human vision. The lens combines advanced optics, fast autofocus, smooth manual focus control, and a compact design for landscapes, architecture, night scenes, starry skies, movies, and dynamic sports shooting.

G Master Optical Performance

Three XA (extreme aspherical) elements, including the largest ever made for an α lens, work with one additional aspherical element to deliver high G Master resolution across the image area. Two Super ED and three ED glass elements help suppress chromatic aberration and maintain sharpness throughout the frame.

Nano AR Coating II reduces internal reflections that can cause flare and ghosting. The coating supports clear, high-contrast images across the wide field of view, even in difficult lighting. A nine-blade circular aperture and carefully controlled spherical aberration help create smooth, creamy bokeh.

Fast Focus and Smooth Control

Four XD Linear Motors, with two assigned to each focus group, provide fast and precise autofocus and tracking with quiet operation and minimal vibration. A floating focus mechanism uses two independently controlled focus groups to maintain high resolution from infinity to close focus throughout the zoom range.

Linear Response MF gives the focus ring a direct and precise response for manual focusing. A focus mode switch allows quick changes between autofocus and manual focus. The customisable focus hold button can also be assigned to other functions through the camera menu.

Flexible Design for Photography and Video

The constant F2.8 aperture keeps exposure, shutter speed, and ISO sensitivity consistent while zooming during movie recording. On an APS-C body or with a Super 35 angle of view, the wide end provides an equivalent field of view of 18mm on a full-frame body.

The lens includes a rear filter holder for sheet-type ND, colour correction, and other filters, along with a cutting template. Its dust- and moisture-resistant design supports outdoor use in challenging conditions. The fluorine-coated front element repels water, oil, and other contaminants and makes the surface easier to clean.

An integral lens hood helps block off-axis light that can cause flare and ghosting. The dedicated lens cap attaches to the hood and locks securely at any hood angle. Despite its wide-angle range and constant F2.8 aperture, the lens weighs only 29.88 ounces for greater mobility.
