Samyang has announced its new AF 24mm F1.8 Full Frame Compact Wide Angle Lens for Sony E mount. This lens marks its eleventh autofocus lens specifically engineered for Sony mirrorless cameras. Weighing just 8.1 ounces and measuring only 2.8 inches in length, the 24mm combines a compact, lightweight form factor with a fast F1.8 aperture and a host of features that outshine any other 24mm E mount lens on the market.

Several new and special features enhance its performance:

Customizable Focus-Hold Button
By pressing and holding this button, you can lock the lens at the auto-focused distance. Additionally, the user can assign other desired functions to the focus-hold button through the Custom Key Settings menu on the camera.

Astrophotography Mode
This mode automatically sets the lens to manual focus, moves and locks the lens to infinity focus, and activates the Infinity Focus Confirmation LED, which lights up green. If the focus control ring is moved, the LED will turn red.

Custom Switch
The Custom Switch allows you to toggle the focusing ring between manual focus control (Mode 1) and aperture control (Mode 2). Furthermore, Samyang will release additional Custom Switch functions via firmware updates. Users can fine-tune focusing parameters, access new functions, and apply firmware updates using the Samyang Lens Station.

The latest optical technology enables this fast wide-angle lens to deliver stunning corner-to-corner resolution, even at its F1.8 maximum aperture. With a total of 11 elements in 8 groups, including 7 special lenses (2 Aspherical, 3 High Refractive Index, and 2 Extra Low Dispersion), plus Ultra Multi-Coating, the lens produces outstanding images. Additionally, spherical aberration and coma are well controlled, which is particularly beneficial for astrophotographers.

The Samyang AF 24mm F1.8 excels not only in available light photography but also in creating beautiful selective focus control with wonderfully blurred backgrounds. Thanks to its 9-blade circular aperture, this lens produces smooth, creamy bokeh with natural, circular, out-of-focus highlights. Moreover, it performs beautifully at an equivalent focal length of 36mm on Sony E mount APS-C cameras.

A new STM (Stepping Motor) design controls the lens’s superb autofocus capabilities. By moving only a single focusing group, the lens offers extremely fast, precise, and silent operation, whether shooting stills or videos. This design also prevents front element rotation and changes in length, making it easy to use with 58mm polarizers and other filters that require precise positioning.

Other notable features include weather sealing in five areas to protect the lens from dust, light rain, and snow. With a wide-angle view of 83.7° and a short minimum focusing distance of 7.48” (190mm), this lens allows you to capture stunning images in less-than-perfect environments, both indoors and outdoors.
