SEL50F25G Compact 50mm G Prime Lens

The Sony SEL50F25G combines the high image quality and beautiful bokeh of a G Lens with a compact, lightweight design. At only 174 g (6.2 oz), it is easy to carry for everyday shooting, outdoor portraits, street snaps and movie production. Its compact design works well with both full-frame and APS-C camera bodies, and its lightweight build makes it suitable for gimbal use.

The lens belongs to a matching range of portable G Lens primes with different focal lengths. The lenses share a similar external design, a 49 mm filter diameter, a compact layout and similar weights. Carrying multiple lenses from the set remains convenient, while their similar weight helps make gimbal rebalancing easier.

High Resolution and Natural Bokeh

Two aspherical elements and one ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element deliver high image quality across the frame. The aspherical elements help control various aberrations and maintain high resolution from corner to corner, even when shooting at the widest aperture with a shallow depth of field. The ED glass element helps suppress chromatic aberration and reduce colour fringing, especially around the image periphery.

A 7-blade circular aperture and carefully controlled spherical aberration create the beautiful, natural bokeh associated with the G Lens series.

Fast AF and Close-Up Performance

Two linear motors provide fast, precise and quiet autofocus with strong tracking performance. The AF system helps capture important moments, including street scenes, changing facial expressions and other fast-moving subjects. Its quiet operation also makes the lens well suited to movie shooting.

The lens focuses as close as 35 cm (1.15 ft) in AF mode and 31 cm (1.02 ft) in MF mode. It delivers a maximum magnification of 0.18x in AF and 0.21x in MF, making it useful for table photography, flowers, small objects and other close-up subjects. A blurred background helps the subject stand out.

The aluminium metal finish on the lens body and hood adds a premium look and contributes to strength and durability. Engraved focal length and aperture markings, an aperture ring, focus hold button, focus mode switch, aperture click switch and Linear Response MF provide intuitive control. The lens also features a dust- and moisture-resistant design for added reliability in demanding outdoor shooting conditions.
