The Sony FE 24-50mm F2.8 G is a compact full-frame standard zoom lens built for everyday photography and filmmaking. Its versatile 24-50mm range covers a wide range of shooting situations, while the constant F2.8 maximum aperture delivers strong low-light performance and beautiful rendering across the entire zoom range. Advanced optical technology supports the full potential of Sony a-series camera bodies, while fast and precise autofocus keeps subjects sharp.

Compact F2.8 Performance

This versatile zoom combines a useful 24-50mm focal range with a constant F2.8 aperture in a remarkably compact body. Four aspherical elements and two ED elements help produce high resolution across the entire zoom range while reducing flare, ghosting, and colour bleeding. The 11-blade circular aperture creates smooth, deep bokeh that helps subjects stand out.

Close-Up Detail and Fast AF

The lens delivers strong close-up performance at every focal length. It offers a maximum magnification of 0.3x in AF mode and 0.33x in MF mode, with a minimum focus distance of 0.19 m in AF and 0.18 m in MF at the wide end. Two specially optimised linear motors and a precision control system provide fast, accurate, and quiet autofocus. The system supports excellent tracking performance, including high-speed shooting with the Sony α9 III at up to 120 fps. It also maintains smooth focus during high frame rate 4K 120p and FHD 240p movie recording.

Built for Stills and Movies

The compact design measures 74.8 mm in diameter and 92.3 mm in length, while the use of engineering plastics helps keep the weight to just 440 g. Minimal centre of gravity shift makes the lens suitable for gimbal and drone mounting. Its compact F2.8 design also works well for movie production, while breathing compensation and metadata recording support are available. In-body Active Mode stabilisation can help deliver stable handheld footage when walking at wide angles.

Three control rings provide direct control over focus, zoom, and aperture. The aperture ring click stops can be switched on or off to suit different shooting situations. A customisable focus hold button, AF/MF switch, and Linear Response MF provide additional control. Inner focusing also makes it easy to use rotatable 67 mm filters, including variable ND filters commonly used for movie production.
