The 20mm F1.8 lens delivers corner-to-corner resolution, even at its maximum F1.8 aperture. Two advanced aspherical (AA) elements help minimise optical aberrations, while three extra-low dispersion (ED) glass elements help reduce sagittal flare. This design reproduces point light sources accurately without color smearing.

A nine-blade circular aperture creates smooth, natural-looking bokeh and highlights. Sony Nano AR coating suppresses reflections that can cause flare and ghosting, helping maintain image clarity and contrast. The fluorine front coating repels water, oil, and other contaminants, making fingerprints and dirt easier to remove.

Compact Design and Precise Control

Weighing 373 g (13.2 oz), this lens pairs a refined optical design with a compact mechanical structure. Linear Response MF makes the focus ring respond directly to rotation for precise manual adjustments. A focus mode switch allows quick changes between autofocus and manual focus.

The aperture ring click switch enables tactile clicks for still photography or smooth, quiet operation for video recording. The lens also accepts circular polarizing filters, ND filters, and other filter types for creative control.

Autofocus and Video Performance

Two XD (Extreme Dynamic) linear motors support fast, precise autofocus and tracking. Advanced control algorithms move the focus group smoothly and quietly, with low vibration and minimal delay.

On APS-C cameras, the lens provides a 30mm full-frame equivalent angle of view. It also supports Super 35 angle-of-view settings for filmmaking.
