The ARRI Hi-5 Hand Unit Basic Set is a fifth-generation intelligent hand unit designed for reliable wireless camera and multi-axis lens control. It combines strong wireless performance with a weatherproof and solid construction. Swappable radio modules support different regions and shooting situations. This basic set comes without batteries and charger.

Versatile Operation

Swappable radio modules allow the Hi-5 to adapt to different frequency regulations and shooting conditions. Three user buttons support personalized functions, while full camera control also supports third-party cameras. The focus knob can be adjusted to match operator preferences, and focus bug Cine RT support brings distance control and readout to the hand unit.

Fast ECS Workflow

The Hi-5 works with the ECS ecosystem for an efficient production workflow. Smart per-marked focus rings use electronic detection to speed up operation. The integrated NATO rail and multiple mounting points provide flexible installation options. The customizable touchscreen interface allows operators to configure the controls, while the ECS Sync App supports software updates and lens file management.

The Hi-5 also supports a Frequency Analyzer for selecting radio channels, a customizable User Button Home Screen, Cinefade Control, AUX and Virtual Axis control, and dedicated Iris, Left-Handed, and Reverse Smart Rings.

Reliable Professional Build

The Hi-5 uses strong materials and a durable construction for demanding professional work. It provides protection against rain, temperature, and dust. Hot-swap battery technology supports battery changes during operation, while the intelligent high-capacity battery system provides a precise remaining-capacity readout on the Hi-5 screen.

Modular hardware, upgradeable software, vibrating haptic feedback, and adaptability to future standards and networks further support long-term use.

Connections & Configuration

The Hi-5 offers LBUS, USB-A, USB-C, and SERIAL connections. The LBUS port can update connected LBUS devices through the ECS Sync App, hardware the Hi-5 to ARRI cameras, or connect to control panels of ARRI Stabilized Remote Heads. USB-A supports lens file and user setup exchange and software updates through the integrated Bluetooth stick and ECS Sync App. USB-C supports software updates through a flash drive, external power, and lens file or user setup exchange. The SERIAL port is intended for future use.

The Hi-5 supports additional configuration options through available licenses. The focus bug License provides focus bug settings, dynamic distance values, Cine RT handset mark synchronization, and controls for limits, lockouts, film plane offset, sensitivity, and field of view. The Cinefade License provides motorized variable ND control from ND 0.4 to ND 2.7, motorized polarizer control, and dynamic depth-of-field control.

The Sony Camera Control License works with Sony Venice and Venice 2 cameras. Standard mode provides frame rate, ND filter, and playback control, while RCP Mode adds shutter speed, ISO as gain in dB, and white balance control. The RED Camera Control License works with DSMC2 and DSMC3 cameras and provides control over frame rate, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, ND filter, user buttons, and playback with clip list handling.

Hi-5 System Components

The system supports ARRI’s high-capacity Li-ion Battery Pack, which provides precise battery-capacity information on the Hi-5 display. RF-EMIP, RF-2400, and RF-900 are interchangeable radio modules designed for different frequency regulations and shooting situations. Smart Focus Rings use electronic ring detection and come in a wide selection of per-marked options.

The Radio Interface Adapter RIA-1 supports ARRI radio modules and can operate as either a receiver or transmitter. The ECS Sync App for iOS supports file sharing, news, software updates, and FAQs for the ECS ecosystem. The Hi-5 Monitor Bracket provides purpose-designed mounting, while the NATO rail and multiple mounting points offer additional flexibility.
