Alpha a7S III Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera

The Sony ILCE-7SM3 Alpha a7S III Mirrorless Digital Camera combines high sensitivity, low noise, wide dynamic range, fast autofocus, and strong image stabilization. It supports full-frame 4K recording at 120p, 10-bit 4:2:2 internal recording, 16-bit RAW data output, and advanced audio options for demanding movie production.

High Sensitivity and Dynamic Range

The newly developed back-illuminated full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor delivers 12.1 effective megapixels and up to twice the readout speed of the α7S II. Its standard ISO range runs from 80-102400 and expands to 40-409600, or 80-409600 for movies. The camera also delivers a 15-stop dynamic range for detailed images with controlled highlights.

Advanced Image Processing

The BIONZ XR image-processing engine provides up to eight times the processing performance of the previous processor. It handles real-time autofocus, image recognition, image-quality adjustments, data transfer, the user interface, and other camera operations while reducing latency.

4K 120p Movie Recording

The α7S III records full-frame 4K video at 120fps with autofocus. Its high-speed sensor readout and BIONZ XR processor support full-pixel readout without binning. This enables clear slow-motion footage up to five times slower than real time, along with full-frame bokeh and smooth autofocus.

10-Bit Recording and RAW Output

Internal 4K recording supports 10-bit depth and 4:2:2 color sampling with Long GOP or All Intra compression. All-Intra records each frame independently at bit rates up to 600Mbps for added post-production flexibility. The XAVC HS format uses MPEG-H HEVC/H.265 for higher compression efficiency. The camera also outputs 16-bit RAW data through HDMI to an external recorder at up to 4264 x 2408 in a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Fast and Precise Autofocus

The Fast Hybrid AF system combines 759 phase-detection AF points covering around 93% of the imaging area with 425-point contrast-detection AF. Real-time Eye AF supports humans and animals, while Real-time Tracking helps maintain focus on moving subjects. AF performance extends down to light levels as low as EV-6.

Professional Audio and Media

The Multi Interface Shoe includes a digital audio interface for cleaner audio recording. With the XLR-K3M XLR adapter Kit, the camera supports 4-channel 24-bit digital audio recording. Two media slots accept CFexpress Type A and SDXC/SDHC cards with UHS-I and UHS-II speed classes.

USB Power Delivery

USB Power Delivery supports extended shooting by supplying power or recharging the internal battery through the USB Type-C port. Compatible USB chargers and mobile batteries can provide power or recharge the battery at 3 to 4 times the rate of conventional power supplies.
