Samyang’s AF 35mm F1.8 Full Frame Compact Wide Angle Lens for Sony E mount is the tenth autofocus lens specifically engineered for Sony mirrorless cameras. Weighing just 7.4 ounces and measuring only 2.5 inches in length, this new 35mm lens strikes the perfect balance of speed and portability. It stands as the lightest and smallest AF full-frame 35mm F1.8 lens for Sony E mount currently available on the market.

The AF 35mm F1.8 combines a compact, rugged build with a sophisticated optical design, providing superb performance and versatility. It incorporates four special elements (two Aspherical and two High Refractive Index) along with Ultra Multi-Coating to deliver rich, high-resolution image quality from the center to the edges of the frame, even at the F/1.8 full aperture. Additionally, this lens performs as a capable, high-precision “standard/normal” focal length equivalent to 52.5mm when used with Sony E mount APS-C sensor models.

Designed for exceptional sharpness at the maximum F1.8 aperture, this lens excels in available light photography and creates content with a shallow depth of field. Thanks to its 9-blade circular aperture, it produces pleasing bokeh effects with natural, circular, out-of-focus highlights that will satisfy both professional and amateur photographers. The AF motor system utilizes a Stepping Motor (STM) optimized for both phase detection and contrast AF, ensuring a smooth and almost effortless shooting experience. Furthermore, the Internal Focus (IF) design allows for quick and precise autofocus performance with silent focusing, making it ideal for video recording.

Notably, this lens includes weather sealing to protect against dust and moisture. It also features a Custom Switch that lets users switch the focusing ring between manual focus control (Mode 1) and aperture control (Mode 2). Samyang is continuously developing additional Custom Switch functions, which will be available via firmware updates. Fine-tuning focusing parameters and other updates for the AF 35mm F1.8 and other Samyang AF Sony E mount lenses can be done using the Samyang Lens Station.
