24.2MP Exmor™ CMOS Image Sensor
The α6500 features an APS-C image sensor with approximately 24.2 effective megapixels. It includes a thin wiring layer and a large photodiode substrate to boost light collection efficiency.

Coupled with the BIONZ X™ image processing engine, the sensor achieves a wide sensitivity range of ISO 100-51200 with low noise. The sensor’s quick-transmission copper wiring layer enables the camera to shoot 4K movies and Full HD at 120fps (100fps).

425 Phase-Detection AF Points with High-Density Tracking AF Technology
With 425 focal plane phase-detection AF points, the α6500 offers wide and dense AF point coverage. It accurately, efficiently, and reliably focuses on subjects across the frame. High-density Tracking AF Technology seamlessly activates AF points to track moving subjects with precision.

Fast Hybrid AF for Stills and Movies
The α6500 boasts the world’s fastest AF speed at 0.05 seconds. This is achieved by integrating Fast Hybrid AF with the efficient BIONZ X image processing engine. As a result, the camera offers exceptionally fast and accurate AF and tracking performance for both movies and stills.

Huge Buffer for Continuous Shooting
Faster internal processing and a higher-capacity buffer memory enable up to 307 images (around 36 seconds) in high-speed continuous shooting. The camera supports 11fps (Hi+) and 8fps (Hi) live-view continuous shooting, allowing you to capture moving subjects with minimal lag on the EVF or LCD screen.

In-Body 5-Axis Image Stabilization
The α6500 compensates for five types of camera shake, enhancing steadiness for stills and movies. The new high-accuracy gyro sensor offers an image stabilization effect equivalent to a 5-stop faster shutter speed, enabling you to shoot with less camera shake, even in challenging conditions like low light or distant subjects.

Intuitive Touch Focus with Viewfinder Use
The α6500’s Touch Focus feature makes selecting the focus point easy. You can simply tap the LCD touchscreen to focus on your desired area. The Touch Pad function also lets you shift the focus point smoothly, even while using the viewfinder.

4K Movie Recording
4K movie recording in the Super 35mm format uses full pixel readout with no pixel binning, providing approximately 2.4 times the data required for 4K (QFHD: 3840 x 2160). This high-resolution data, equivalent to 6K, ensures sharp, detailed 4K images.

XGA OLED Tru-Finder
The α6500 introduces a high-contrast, high-resolution XGA OLED Tru-Finder, offering fine detail in dark and bright scenes. You can choose from 120fps (100fps) or 60fps (50fps) frame rates for smooth tracking.

Accurate Eye AF for Portraiture
The α6500’s Eye AF (available with AF-C) provides precise autofocus on a subject’s eye, even when they move. This ensures successful portraiture with fewer out-of-focus shots.

Lock-On AF
Lock-On AF automatically maintains focus on a moving subject. Once you align the target frame with the subject, the camera detects and resumes focus when the subject reappears.

Durable Shutter with Low Vibration
Enjoy minimal blur and quiet shooting thanks to the α6500’s high-durability shutter, tested to around 200,000 releases. The shutter’s low-vibration design optimizes image sensor resolution.

Advanced Image Processing System
The BIONZ X image processing engine is paired with a newly developed front-end LSI, enhancing texture reproduction, clarity, and noise reduction, especially in high sensitivity ranges.

Slow and Quick Motion Recording
The α6500 allows recording of up to 5x Slow Motion and 60x Quick Motion in Full HD at 50Mbps. You can choose from eight frame rates (1fps to 120fps), as well as different recording formats, without the need for PC-based post-production.

AF in Focus Magnifier
The AF system works even when you magnify a selected image area on the viewfinder or LCD screen. This feature is ideal for macro photography, where precise focusing is crucial.

Focal Plane Phase-Detection AF for A-Mount Lenses
The α6500 supports focal plane phase-detection AF with A-mount lenses when used with the LA-EA3 mount adapter. This allows for fast, fluid tracking with E-mount and A-mount lenses.

Gamma Display Assist and Zebra Function
Gamma Display Assist provides natural contrast during S-Log recording, while the Zebra function helps monitor exposure by showing areas with specific brightness levels, making it easier to assess exposure when shooting in S-Log.

Expanded Connectivity
The α6500 supports professional-standard audio devices through an XLR terminal, with an optional XLR adapter kit. It also offers clean HDMI output, enabling 4K and Full HD movies to be recorded externally.

S-Gamut/S-Log Shooting
The α6500 offers flexibility in post-production with S-Gamut and S-Log shooting. The camera supports up to 14 stops of dynamic range in the S-Log3 gamma setting, allowing for precise color grading and enhanced image detail.

Rugged Magnesium Alloy Body and Robust Lens Mount
The α6500’s magnesium alloy body provides solid reliability, while the lens mount is built to withstand heavy use, even with large telephoto lenses.

Dust and Moisture Resistance
The camera is designed with dust and moisture resistance, featuring sealing around buttons and dials, as well as a double-layered structure to prevent water and dust from entering.

Silent Shooting
Silent Shooting mode operates without sound, even in continuous shooting up to 3fps with AF/AE tracking. This is ideal for situations where silence is essential, such as wildlife or indoor performances.

Enhanced Menu Interface
The redesigned menu categorizes options for faster access. The group name appears at the screen top, with each tab uniquely colored for quick navigation.

Customizable File Name Setting
You can customize the file name to include the first three characters of your choice, facilitating easier file management, especially during assignments with multiple cameras.

PlayMemories Camera Apps
PlayMemories Camera Apps allow you to expand your creative options. Apps include Time-lapse, Smart Remote Control, Sky HDR, and others, depending on your region.

Location Information Link
The α6500 pairs with the Imaging Edge Mobile app via Bluetooth® to record location data from your mobile device. It also allows you to adjust date, time, and location settings.

One-Touch Remote/One-Touch Sharing
With One-Touch Remote, you can control the camera via your smartphone or tablet. One-Touch Sharing allows for quick photo and video transfers for social media.

Enhanced Auto Exposure Functions
The α6500 offers new exposure modes, such as Highlight and Average, to improve exposure metering. The camera also allows precise control over exposure values, even when focus points change.
