Description

Alpha 7R VI Mirrorless Camera

The α7R VI combines high resolution, fast continuous shooting, advanced autofocus, and high-quality video recording. Its upgraded imaging system brings together a fully stacked Exmor RS sensor and the BIONZ XR2 processing engine with integrated AI processing. These technologies support detailed images, responsive operation, and greater creative flexibility.

High-Resolution Imaging and Processing

The 66.8 MP full-frame, fully stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor is the first fully stacked sensor in the α7R series. It delivers readout speeds up to 5.6 times faster, expanded dynamic range, and reliable low-light autofocus. Capture full-resolution bursts at up to 30 fps, record uncropped 4K 60p video, and photograph landscapes, portraits, wildlife, and other subjects with fine detail.

The BIONZ XR2 engine with integrated AI processing improves image and sound quality, communication, power management, and responsiveness. It performs up to 60 AF/AE calculations per second, supports blackout-free shooting and 8K video, and uses AI-based subject recognition and illumination estimation to support shooting.

The camera supports up to 16 stops of dynamic range at low sensitivities and an ISO range of 100–32000. It reduces noise in night scenes and supports HDR processing. The updated D-Range Optimizer balances highlights and shadows with strength settings up to Lv8. The Visible Light + IR Sensor works with deep learning-based illumination estimation to maintain stable auto white balance and natural color reproduction. The camera also minimise shadow noise in high-dynamic-range landscapes and captures realistic skin tones in portraits.

Continuous Shooting and Image Stabilization

Shoot at up to 30 fps with full 66.8 MP resolution, continuous AF/AE tracking, and no viewfinder blackout. The camera tracks complex subject movement with up to 60 AF/AE calculations per second. With CFexpress Type A card support and the BIONZ XR2 engine, it can record up to 215 JPEG images or 65 Compressed (HQ) RAW images in a continuous burst.

Pre-Capture records a burst from 0.03 to 1 second after the initial half-press of the shutter button. Half-press the shutter to set focus, then press fully to capture moments that occur just before the final shutter release. The function supports full-frame, full-resolution RAW capture at 30 fps.

The camera provides up to 8.5-stop central and 7.0-stop peripheral stabilization to help reduce blur and preserve resolution. Compatible lenses improve stabilization performance, while the system also suppresses telephoto lens shake. Three composite RAW modes offer additional options: Pixel Shift Multi creates extremely high-resolution composites, NR Shooting produces low-noise images, and Shooting for HDR captures a wide dynamic range. The added Compressed (HQ) RAW format creates lightweight RAW files for continuous shooting while maintaining high image quality.

Advanced Video and Recording Options

Record uncropped 4K video at 60p or high-frame-rate 4K at 120p. The camera records 4K QFHD video at 3840 × 2160 with 4:2:2 color sampling and 10-bit depth. For higher-resolution footage, record 8K 30p movies in XAVC HS format with 8.2K oversampling. The camera also supports 4:2:2 10-bit 8K recording, with autofocus performance, natural gradations, and color reproduction supporting detailed video.

Dual Gain Shooting uses the sensor’s tonal range to provide greater editing latitude, detailed shadows, low noise, and smooth video gradations. For audio, the optional XLR-A4 XLR Adaptor enables 96 kHz, 32-bit float recording through the digital audio interface on the Multi Interface Shoe. In-camera Audio Noise Reduction offers Noise Cut and Wind Noise Reduction modes to reduce background, wind, and lens noise when using the internal or an external microphone.

Storage, Power and Monitor Design

Two memory card slots support CFexpress Type A and SDXC/SDHC UHS-II or UHS-I media. Recording options include simultaneous recording and saving JPEG/HEIF and RAW files to separate cards.

The 2670 mAh high-capacity battery powers up to 600 stills with the viewfinder or 710 stills with the monitor. Advanced power management extends battery life, and the camera provides battery health information. With the USB Power Delivery-compatible BC-SAD1 charger, two NP-SA100 batteries can charge fully in about 115 minutes, while one battery can reach 80% in 55 minutes. The charger uses vertical battery loading to save space and includes status LEDs.

The 4-axis multi-angle monitor tilts up, down, and sideways for flexible viewing. Its 3.2-inch, 2.1-million-dot touch-sensitive LCD features a DCI-P3-equivalent color gamut for clear, natural images.
