Description
FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM II
The world’s smallest, lightest F2.8 wide-angle zoom
The FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM II delivers dynamic wide-angle perspectives, offering extraordinary resolution and bokeh while maximizing the speed and performance of advanced camera bodies.
Additionally, unequalled AF performance provides significant advantages for both stills and movies. Moreover, it holds the title of the smallest and lightest lens of its kind.
Breathtaking G Master resolution
High spatial resolution ensures detailed rendering, even at the edges of the image, throughout the 16-35mm zoom range, even when the lens stays wide open.
Notably, five aspherical elements, including three XA (extreme aspherical) elements, control aberration effectively. Consequently, the lens produces an outstanding blend of high resolution and beautiful bokeh.
Extraordinary resolution and bokeh
The large F2.8 maximum aperture, combined with an innovative optical design and an advanced 11-blade aperture unit, creates smooth, beautiful bokeh.
Additionally, the FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM II offers remarkable close-up performance with a minimum focusing distance of 0.22 m (0.73 ft) throughout the zoom range. This feature allows you to get closer for dynamic perspectives, while the deep bokeh adds expressive capability.
Refined for outstanding movie imagery
Reduced focus breathing, focus shift, and axis shift when zooming ensure smooth movie imagery. Furthermore, XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors and an advanced aperture unit minimize noise and vibration.
A center of gravity that shifts minimally ensures agile, stable maneuverability when shooting handheld and eliminates the need for readjustment after changing the zoom setting when using a gimbal.
AF that is smooth, precise, quiet, and lightning-fast
The FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM II incorporates a floating focus mechanism with four original XD Linear Motors and precise lens control, achieving up to 2x faster AF speed. Additionally, continuous shooting at up to 30 fps is possible with Sony’s α1 body.
This lens reliably acquires focus and smoothly tracks subjects, achieving the critical focus required for slow motion and 4K/8K movies.
The world’s smallest and lightest in its class
Despite being the smallest and lightest F2.8 16-35mm zoom in the world, the FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM II delivers extraordinary image quality. XA elements and Super ED glass (extra-low dispersion) in an advanced optical design make this possible.
Additionally, lightweight, high-thrust XD Linear Motors further contribute to a low overall weight of just 547 grams (19.3 oz.). This makes it about 20% lighter than the E 16-35mm F2.8 GM. With an overall length of just 111.5 mm (4-1/2 in.), it remains highly compact.
Professional control and reliability
The lens includes a click ON/OFF switch and lock switch, offering flexible aperture control. Two focus hold buttons also provide convenient access for both horizontal and vertical shooting. Additionally, one function can be assigned to the focus hold buttons from the body menus.
Finally, structural sealing at all seams, silicone rubber gaskets on buttons and switches, and a rubber ring around the lens mount protect against dust and moisture.
