High Resolution With G Master Bokeh

Two high-precision XA elements correct distortion and most types of aberration to deliver sharp detail across the image, including the edges. An ED glass element helps suppress chromatic aberration for clear images with reduced colour bleeding.

The F1.4 maximum aperture creates strong subject separation and beautiful background blur. XA elements help prevent onion-ring bokeh, while spherical aberration optimisation supports smooth, refined bokeh. The 11-blade circular aperture further enhances the look of out-of-focus areas.

Clear Images In Strong Light

Sony’s Nano AR Coating II reduces internal reflections that can cause flare and ghosting. This helps maintain contrast and clarity when the sun or other strong light sources appear in the frame.

Fast Focus And Creative Control

High-thrust XD linear motors and an advanced control algorithm provide fast, precise, smooth, and quiet autofocus for stills and movies. The lens supports responsive subject tracking and refined AF operation during movie recording, including high frame rates. Compatible α series bodies can also use breathing compensation.

Linear Response MF gives the focus ring direct and precise manual control. An independent aperture ring provides hands-on adjustment from F1.4 to F16, while the click ON/OFF switch allows smooth aperture operation. An iris lock switch can secure the ring at the “A” position or enable manual aperture control.

Compact Design With Flexible Shooting

The lens measures only 80.6 mm in diameter and 96.0 mm in length and weighs 516 grams. Its internal focusing system keeps the front element from rotating, making it suitable for circular polarizing and variable ND filters. It accepts standard 67 mm screw-on filters.

A minimum focusing distance of 0.41 m and maximum magnification of 0.16x with AF provide added flexibility for stills and movies. With MF, the minimum focusing distance is 0.38 m and maximum magnification reaches 0.18x.

Two customisable focus hold buttons and a focus mode switch provide added control. The focus hold buttons can be assigned functions such as Focus Magnifier through compatible camera body menus. A fluorine coating on the front element helps repel fingerprints, dust, water, oil, and other contaminants while making the surface easier to clean.
