The Sony FE 16-25mm F2.8 G is a compact full-frame wide-angle zoom lens designed for stills and movies. Its versatile 16-25mm range covers ultra-wide and wide-angle perspectives for scenery, cityscapes, travel, selfies, and everyday snapshots. A constant F2.8 aperture delivers large-aperture performance across the entire zoom range, while G Lens rendering, smooth bokeh, and precise autofocus help produce sharp, detailed results.

Compact Wide-Angle Performance

This versatile zoom combines a 16-25mm focal range with a constant F2.8 aperture in a compact, lightweight design. Its optical system uses three ED elements and four aspherical elements, including one ED Aspherical element, to deliver high resolution throughout the zoom range. The design also helps suppress flare, ghosting, and colour bleeding for clear, detailed images. An 11-blade aperture unit works with the optical design to create smooth, deep G Lens bokeh and strong subject separation.

Fast AF for Stills and Movies

Two specially optimised linear motors and a precision control system provide fast and accurate autofocus. The tracking system can keep up with the Sony α9 III at up to 120 fps. Precise, quiet focus remains smooth during high-frame-rate 4K 120p and FHD 240p movie recording. The lens also supports body breathing compensation and metadata recording.

Lightweight Design for Mobile Shooting

The lens measures 74.8 mm in diameter and 91.4 mm in length, while engineering plastics help enhance durability and keep the weight to just 409 g. Its compact design works well for long shooting sessions, low-light situations, and mobile setups. Minimal extension and a small centre of gravity shift make gimbal and drone mounting easier. Combined with in-body Active Mode stabilisation, the lens can deliver stable handheld footage while walking at wide angles.

Direct Creative Control

Three control rings provide direct control over focus, zoom, and aperture. You can turn the aperture ring click stops on or off to match the shooting situation. A customisable focus hold button, AF/MF switch, Linear Response MF, and inner focus add further control. Inner focus also makes it easy to use rotatable 67 mm filters, including variable ND filters often used for movie production.
