Fast, flexible light control with the Lindsey Optics Brilliant² Variable ND Filter 6.6×6.6″ /161mm. It delivers smooth exposure adjustments from 2 to 8 stops while maintaining neutral color, reducing near infrared contamination, and supporting quick operation in professional matte box workflows.

Fast Variable Neutral Density Control

The Brilliant² Variable ND Filter provides adjustable light reduction from ND 0.6 (2 stops) to ND 2.4 (8 stops). Rotate either geared thumb wheel by hand or with an optional motor to quickly match changing lighting conditions or fine-tune aperture and depth of field.

The engraved thumb wheels feature alpha markings from A to H. A full 360-degree rotation moves the filter smoothly from minimum to maximum density for repeatable adjustments.

Unlike many variable ND filters, the Brilliant² design performs correctly when inserted into the matte box in either orientation, making installation faster and reducing setup errors.

High Optical Performance

The filter reduces both visible light and near infrared wavelengths between 700nm and 850nm. This helps minimize infrared pollution that can affect camera sensors while maintaining accurate, neutral color.

Broadband multi-layer anti-reflection coatings reduce internal reflections between filters, preserve image contrast, and help eliminate ghosting. The coating also repels water and oil, making the filter easier to clean and maintain.

The included Brilliant-Pol circular polarizers provide a large 6.33-inch clear aperture that supports wide-angle lenses and large-diameter zoom lenses without restricting the image.

Professional Construction and Matte Box Integration

The Brilliant² Variable ND features an all-aluminum body with precision gears for reliable operation. One Brilliant-Pol circular polarizer rotates smoothly on Delrin rollers inside the main gear, while a second circular polarizer remains fixed.

The unique tray mount design allows quick installation into compatible 6.6×6.6-inch matte boxes. The filter occupies two filter slots and works correctly regardless of insertion direction thanks to its dual circular polarizer construction.

Two standard 1/4″-20 threaded mounting points on the handle allow an optional motor to be installed for wireless remote operation on cranes, jibs, and other remote camera systems. Motorized control also enables smooth exposure fades and synchronized depth-of-field effects when paired with lens aperture adjustments.
