Overview

Visual Stories with Extraordinary Freedom, Impressive Cinematic Expression
Capture the impossible with expanded ISO sensitivity. You can now capture usable images in near-total darkness, thanks to the impressive expanded ISO range up to 4096001. The full-frame sensor, paired with innovative light-gathering technology, guarantees limitless shooting possibilities.

Stunning Bokeh and Full-Frame Creativity
Realize beautiful 4K imagery with the creative freedom enabled by the full-frame sensor. You can capture every detail of the scene, utilizing shallow depth of field and stunning bokeh, which gives your shots a truly cinematic look.

Cinematic Colour Science with S-Cinetone™
S-Cinetone colour, developed for Sony’s acclaimed FX9, serves as the default look on the FX6. It’s precisely tuned to meet the needs of today’s content creators, offering rich colours and natural skin tones. This feature produces fresh, vivid images straight out of the camera without grading, while still retaining plenty of latitude for post-production.

Large Pixels Deliver High Sensitivity and Low Noise
The full-frame, back-illuminated, 10.2-megapixel2 Exmor R™ CMOS image sensor provides impressive light-gathering capability. Its fast readout speeds and a dynamic range of 15+ stops1 deliver superb image quality with wide sensitivity and reduced noise.

Powerful BIONZ XRTM Image Processor
The BIONZ XR image processing engine matches the sensor’s high-speed readout with enormous processing power. With its future-oriented architecture, it delivers high-quality images faster and dramatically improves the camera’s interface responsiveness.

Impressive Dynamic Range for Limitless Expression
At its base sensitivity of ISO 8003, the FX6 offers optimal dynamic range for well-lit interiors and outdoor documentary shots. Additionally, an enhanced ISO 128003 sensitivity allows you to tackle challenging low-light conditions, such as morning and evening shots. The FX6 boasts an exceptional 15+ stops1 of dynamic range, which exceeds the perception of even the human eye in many conditions. This enables unprecedented creative freedom in colour grading and post-production.

Transform Your Shooting Creativity:

Fast Hybrid AF for Accuracy and Tenacity
The wide-area AF system uses intelligent tracking and on-sensor phase-detection to track subjects tenaciously across almost the entire frame (6271-point focal plane phase-detection AF covers approximately 89% of the image area). The hybrid AF system ensures precise focusing, even when shooting at shallow depths of field and 120p high frame rates in 4K (QFHD)2.

Real-Time Eye AF and Face Detection Supported
Real-time Eye AF and Face Detection guarantee accurate, stable focus acquisition for interviews, events, and any situation where precise focus on people is essential. Through sophisticated real-time processing, the system ensures pinpoint eye focus, even when subjects are looking up or down at steep angles. This allows the operator to focus entirely on composing the best shot.

Powerful Focus Control for Solo Shooters
With AF Transition Speed selectable over 7 levels and AF Subject Shift Sensitivity over 5 levels, you can better express your creative intentions when switching subjects or performing tasks like rack focusing.

Lens-Ring AF Subject Selection
When the AF Assist function is enabled, rotating the focus ring instantly switches from autofocus to manual focus, allowing you to quickly select a different subject. Autofocus operation resumes as soon as you stop rotating the lens focus ring.

Auto Focus Area/Position
You can set the target area for autofocus among Flexible Spot, Zone, or Wide. Moreover, you can change the position of the target area quickly during shooting by simply touching the LCD monitor. Tracking AF Pointer is available in software version 5.01 or later3.

4K 120fps with Every Frame in Focus
High Frame Rate shots transform everyday action into a visual feast of elegant movement. The FX6 captures up to 120 frames per second (fps) at 4K (QFHD) resolution. Slow and Quick (S&Q) modes give you full control over the captured frame rate, from 1 to 120fps, allowing precise motion narratives, including beautiful 5x Super Slow Motion (24fps output).

Advantages of Sony’s Lenses for Video Shooting
Explore the four unique advantages of using Sony’s E-mount lenses for video shooting. The combination of Sony’s lenses and cameras will elevate your video creation experience.

Built-In Electronic Variable ND Filter
The FX6 features Sony’s unique built-in electronic Variable Neutral Density (ND) filter. Unlike conventional optical ND filters, the electronic ND filter on the FX6 is controllable from 1/4ND to 1/128ND linearly, or you can set it to auto. This flexibility is perfect for environments with rapidly changing lighting conditions, as you won’t need to change filters or compromise your depth of field.

Operability and Expandability:

Lightweight, Modular, and Robust
Despite its lightweight 0.89-kg body, the magnesium-alloy FX6 is tough enough to withstand the rigors of real-world shooting. A detachable Smart Grip places key functions at your fingertips and adjusts easily with a single button.

Grab-and-Shoot Mobility
The smart handle, part of the FX6’s modular design, is perfect for low-angle shooting. It’s simple to reconfigure for various applications, including mounting on a gimbal, drone, or underwater housing.

Magnesium Body and Frame for High Durability with Light Weight
To ensure reliability in challenging environments, the main body, covers, and top handle are made from a production-tested, lightweight magnesium alloy. The main frame offers high strength and durability while minimizing weight, maximizing mobility.

Architecture to Prevent Thermal Shutdown
The custom ventilation system and chassis design prevent thermal shutdown during shooting at high frame rates and 4K (QFHD) resolutions. Heat sinks, the shape of air intakes and exhaust vents, and the location of the low-noise fan have all been carefully engineered to ensure optimal ventilation.

10-bit 4:2:2 Recording
Record directly on the camera with 10-bit depth and 4:2:2 colour sampling, offering greater flexibility in image grading, post-processing, and compositing.

All-Intra Encoding Available
In addition to Long GOP, the FX6 now supports internal All-Intra encoding. This method encodes every frame independently at bitrates up to 600 Mbps, capturing complex motion more accurately and enabling more efficient editing workflows.

16-bit RAW SDI Output
For demanding post-production workflows, the FX6 offers 16-bit RAW output via SDI connection to compatible external recorders, while XAVC-I files are captured simultaneously in-camera. RAW video output is available in 4096 x 2160 or 3840 x 2160 data from the image sensor, with frame rate options including 1203 / 1003 / 59.94 / 50 / 29.97 / 25 / 24 / 23.98.

Shooting Modes that Match Creator Workflows
The FX6 offers preset shooting modes like S-Cinetone, which produces great-looking shots in-camera, or S-Log3 / S-Gamut3 with Cine-EI mode, which captures perfectly exposed images for post-production.

Scene File Function Allows Easy Look Changes On-Site
Four preset scene file types are available for SDR shooting (S-Cinetone, Standard, Still, ITU709, 709tone), and two for HDR (HLG Live, HLG Natural). Additionally, the system supports 16 slots for imported user 3D LUTs, giving you flexibility without relying on post-production.

Remarkable Smart Grip and Smart Handle
Sony’s ergonomic Smart Grip and Smart Handle feature easy one-button adjustment. With zoom, record, and assignable control buttons, along with a dial for iris control, you can comfortably operate the camera for hours.

Professional Connectivity
A wide range of professional interfaces, including 12G-SDI and HDMI outputs5, remote interfaces, TC connectors for multi-camera sync, and SuperSpeed USB 5 Gbps (USB 3.2) support smooth data workflows.

Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe
