SEL100F28GM 100mm STF G Master Lens

This 100mm mid-range telephoto prime lens combines outstanding G Master resolution with Sony’s innovative STF optical design. Its optical apodization element and 11-blade circular aperture produce exceptionally smooth, natural bokeh. The lens maintains high performance across the image area while keeping the subject sharp and beautifully separated from the background.

Spherical aberration compensation, ED glass, and aspherical elements help deliver the extreme resolution and sharpness expected from the G Master series. The design meets the demanding 50 lines per millimeter MTF requirement used as a basis for G Master optical performance.

Sony’s Nano AR Coating reduces flare and ghosting caused by unwanted reflections, especially in backlit scenes. This helps maintain strong contrast, clear details, and deep blacks across a wide range of shooting conditions.

Smooth STF Bokeh and Close-Up Detail

The optical APD element gradually reduces light transmission toward its edges. This softens the edges of point images and creates exceptionally smooth bokeh in both foreground and background areas with minimal double-edge effects.

The lens also minimizes peripheral vignetting that can affect the shape of highlights. Point light sources remain consistently circular across the image area, creating elegant highlight bokeh when shooting subjects such as sunlight passing through leaves.

An integrated macro ring switch extends the lens into the macro range. Macro mode provides a 0.57m minimum focusing distance and 0.25x maximum magnification without compromising resolution performance.

Fast Autofocus and Professional Control

The DDSSM Direct Drive SSM focus system uses an original Sony piezoelectric motor to drive focus directly. It delivers fast, precise, quiet autofocus and supports both contrast AF and focal-plane phase-detection AF. The quiet operation suits still photography, wildlife work, and movie production.

The lens provides an aperture ring, switchable aperture ring click stops, a Focus Hold button, and an AF/MF switch. Its wide focus ring supports smooth, comfortable manual focus control, while the high braking precision of the DDSSM system provides accurate focus adjustment.

Steady Shooting in Challenging Conditions

Built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation helps reduce blur when shooting at slower shutter speeds. This benefits both professional and amateur photographers using a 100mm mid-range telephoto lens. Second-generation α7 camera bodies can also combine the lens stabilisation with in-body 5-axis stabilisation.

A rubber seal ring at the mount and a dust- and moisture-resistant design provide added protection in challenging environments. The lens supports confident shooting in light rain and windy conditions.
