33MP Full-Frame Image Quality

The Sony α7 IV uses a 33.0MP Exmor R™ CMOS back-illuminated full-frame sensor with the BIONZ XR™ image processor. This combination delivers detailed images, accurate color reproduction, low noise, and smooth operation. The camera offers a standard ISO range of 100-51200 for stills, expandable to ISO 50-204800, while movie sensitivity reaches ISO 100-102400.

Its 15-stop dynamic range helps preserve delicate detail in landscapes and scenery. Ten Creative Look presets with eight adjustable parameters let you create a visual mood directly in the camera. The 10-bit HEIF format also produces smooth color gradations for subjects such as skies and portraits.

Fast Autofocus and Stabilization

The Fast Hybrid AF system combines phase-detection and contrast-detection autofocus. It provides 759 phase-detection points covering approximately 94% of the image area. Real-Time Tracking and improved Real-Time Eye AF help maintain focus on human, animal, and bird subjects.

The camera can detect animal eyes and bird eyes for still images and movies. Touch Tracking also lets you select a subject directly from the screen. A 5-axis optical image stabilization system provides up to 5.5 stops of shutter-speed compensation, while Active Mode stabilization supports stable 4K movie shooting.

High-Speed Continuous Shooting

The α7 IV supports continuous shooting at up to 10 fps with AF/AE tracking using both mechanical and electronic shutters. Its high-capacity buffer can handle more than 800 frames at this speed, while the BIONZ XR processor supports fast buffer release and responsive operation.

Advanced 4K Video Features

Record movies at up to 4K 60p with full pixel readout and no binning. The camera also uses full-frame 7K oversampling to produce detailed 4K video up to 30p. Internal 10-bit 4:2:2 recording supports both Long GOP and All-Intra encoding for greater flexibility during post-production.

All-Intra recording captures each frame independently at bit rates up to 600Mbps. XAVC HS uses HEVC/H.265 encoding for efficient file sizes. S-Cinetone™, Creative Look, and S-Log3 provide different options for creating expressive movie footage.

Professional Connectivity and Streaming

The α7 IV supports Focus Breathing Compensation, Focus Map, and AF Assist for more controlled focus transitions during movie production. Its Multi Interface Shoe provides a digital audio interface, while integrated signal processing can reduce wind noise automatically.

USB connectivity lets you use the camera as a high-performance webcam for live streaming. The camera also supports 5GHz and 2.4GHz wireless LAN, background FTP file transfer, and flexible file transfer based on ratings, shot marks, protection status, or format. Divider Frames and movie markers help speed up image selection and editing workflows.
