The Sony E PZ 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS II is a compact APS-C power zoom lens designed for everyday stills and movies. Its 16-50mm focal range provides a 35mm full-frame equivalent of 24-75mm, covering a wide range of daily shooting needs. At just 107 g, the lens offers excellent mobility and retracts to only 31.3 mm when the camera is powered off.

Versatile Optical Performance

The optical design uses four aspherical elements and one ED element to deliver high resolution throughout the 16-50mm zoom range. The lens helps minimise colour bleeding and maintains strong clarity while also producing smooth bokeh when needed. Close-up shooting is supported by a minimum focus distance of 0.25 m at the wide end and 0.30 m at the telephoto end, along with a maximum magnification of 0.215x.

Fast AF and Stable Shooting

An advanced linear motor and high-speed control system provide smooth, precise, and quiet autofocus. The lens supports strong tracking performance for active subjects and works with the Sony α9 III for continuous shooting at up to 120 fps. It also supports 4K 120p and FHD 240p high-frame-rate movie recording. Built-in optical image stabilisation works with compatible in-body stabilisation, including Active Mode, to help minimise blur in movies.

Smooth Power Zoom for Movies

The smooth, quiet power zoom allows you to maintain autofocus while zooming. A zoom lever provides constant-speed zoom control for smooth movie transitions. Focus breathing control helps minimise changes in angle of view during focusing, while compatible bodies support breathing compensation. Metadata recording also enables compensation during editing.

Small, Light, and Easy to Control

The lens retracts to just 31.3 mm when the camera is switched off and weighs only 107 g. Its durable construction makes it suitable for everyday shooting. An integrated zoom and focus ring provides flexible control, while the zoom lever enables smooth power zoom operation. The lens also accepts 40.5 mm screw-on filters.
