Sony FR7 Cinema Line Full-frame PTZ Camera
Capture the World from New Angles:
Remote Control for Creative Camera Placement
With its integrated, remotely controllable pan and tilt mechanism, the FR7 offers the flexibility to mount it on the ceiling or in other out-of-the-way locations. You can follow your subjects or instantly recall pre-composed shot framings, unlocking unprecedented creative potential.
Innovative Remote Control
A newly developed Web App grants you easy access via QR code or URL input, allowing you to set up the FR7 from a tablet or PC through a web browser. Alternatively, you can use the optional Remote Control Panel (RCP), Master Setup Unit (MSU), or RM-IP500 devices for precise joystick-controlled pan, tilt, and zoom operations.
Advanced Technology for Cinematic Expression
The FR7, bearing the Cinema Line name, incorporates key features that support cinematic expression. It is the first pan, tilt, and zoom (PTZ) camera to feature a back-illuminated 35mm full-frame CMOS image sensor. The BIONZ XR™ processor further enhances image quality, providing high sensitivity, smooth gradations, and true-to-life color.
Limitless Creativity with E-Mount Lenses
Thanks to its E-mount, the FR7 is compatible with all Sony E-mount lenses, including the exceptional G Master series. These lenses are renowned for their stunning resolution and beautiful bokeh. With focal lengths ranging from 12 mm to 1200 mm, the camera offers complete creative control.
Superb Cinematic Imagery:
Cinema Line Image Quality
As part of the Cinema Line, the FR7 delivers high-quality cinematic images, providing both Custom and Cine EI modes. These modes help you adjust the camera’s operation to match your workflow while maintaining consistency with other Cinema Line cameras.
Staggering Latitude for Powerful Expression
The FR7 provides an impressive 15+ stops of latitude, preventing blown highlights and crushed shadows. In Cine EI mode, you can set the base sensitivity to either ISO 800 or ISO 12800, ensuring a consistent look across different lighting conditions.
Astounding Image Quality in Low Light
The FR7 excels in low light, using its sensor size and high sensitivity to deliver cleaner images. You can expand ISO up to 409600, perfect for shooting in extremely low light environments, such as live concerts.
Slow Motion for Extensive Creative Possibilities
With smooth 5x slow-motion capabilities, the FR7 opens up extensive creative possibilities. You can capture footage at up to 120 fps in 4K resolution or up to 240 fps in full HD, allowing for clearer and more dramatic moments.
4K 60p 4:2:2 10-bit Output
The FR7 supports high-quality output via HDMI and SDI OUT connectors. This feature allows you to record in Apple ProRes 422 or Avid DNxHR® format at 4K 60p 4:2:2 10-bit with compatible external recorders.
Support for S-Log3/S-Gamut3
With the optional S-Log3 gamma curve and S-Gamut3.Cine, the FR7 captures the full color gamut and dynamic range of the sensor. This feature retains crucial information in both highlights and shadows, giving you greater flexibility in post-production.
All-Intra Recording for Precise Motion Capture
The FR7 enables 4K internal recording with 10-bit depth and 4:2:2 color sampling, using All-Intra and Long-GOP compression. This ensures you can push color grades further while retaining natural gradation for true editing freedom.
An Instant Cinematic Look with S-Cinetone™
S-Cinetone™ delivers the natural mid-tones essential for healthy-looking skin, with soft colors and gorgeous highlights. With this feature, you can create beautiful cinematic images directly in-camera without the need for extensive color grading.
Express Your Vision with E-Mount Lenses
Sony’s E-mount supports high-quality lenses, including the G Master series. These lenses offer stunning resolution and softly dissolving bokeh, giving you complete creative control with focal lengths ranging from 12 mm to 1200 mm.
Exquisite, Impressive Bokeh
Thanks to the FR7’s full-frame sensor and Sony’s extraordinary lens lineup, you can create expressive bokeh effects with a shallow depth of field—something other PTZ cameras can’t achieve. Using a prime lens such as an F1.2 lens allows for cinematic visual effects, where the subject stands out dramatically from the background.
Compatible with Third-Party Lens Controllers
You can control the zoom operation of manual zoom lenses through the Web App, RM-IP500, or infrared remote control by connecting a compatible third-party lens controller. Even telephoto zoom lenses that don’t support power zoom can be operated remotely.
The Advantages of Sony’s Lenses for Video Shooting
To enhance your video creation, Sony’s lenses provide four key advantages. The combination of these lenses and the FR7 enhances your ability to capture stunning visuals.
Lens Support Rods
The FR7 includes two lens rods beneath the camera head, allowing you to attach standard 15 mm rod-mountable accessories.
Explore the Possibilities with Remote PTZ:
Smooth Pan, Tilt, and Zoom Operation
The FR7 features smooth pan, tilt, and zoom functionality, all remotely controlled or recalled to preset positions. The pan angle range extends from -170° to +170°, while the tilt angle range spans from -30° to +195° when used in a normal upright orientation.
A Full-Featured Dedicated Web App
With the FR7’s new Web App, you can use a tablet or computer’s web browser to pan, tilt, zoom, focus, record, and adjust all camera settings. You can also access cameras mounted in hard-to-reach locations with ease, using each camera’s unique QR code. The Web App’s menu format is identical to that of the FX6, ensuring intuitive operation.
High-Performance Remote Controller RM-IP500
Pair the FR7 with Sony’s RM-IP500 remote controller for precise joystick-controlled pan, tilt, and zoom operations. The speed adjustment knobs let you control pan, tilt, zoom, and focus at varying speeds, depending on your subject and setting. Zoom control is available via the joystick or a seesaw lever.
Professional Control via S700PTP Protocol
The FR7 also supports control through the S700PTP protocol via Ethernet, enabling it to be controlled by Sony’s Remote Control Panel (RCP) and Master Setup Unit (MCU). This provides high-level control for multi-camera systems that combine the FR7 with Sony’s BRC series PTZ cameras and system cameras.
Free-D Protocol for VR/AR Systems
The FR7 Ver.2.0 supports “free-d” output, which provides pan/tilt/zoom, focus, and iris tracking information along with the synchronizing signal. This feature allows easy connection to VR/AR systems for video production, broadcasting, and live events.
Multi-Camera Shooting with the FR7
The FR7 supports multi-camera production with minimal staff. You can use a single RM-IP500 remote control unit to manage up to 100 FR7 cameras (10 groups of 10 cameras).
Multi-Camera Shooting with Professional Cameras
The FR7 Ver.2.0 introduces the “709tone” look, which matches the spectral characteristics of Sony professional cameras. You can easily select this look via the Web App, simplifying camera setup.
Fine-Tuned Control Over Camera Movement
Pan and tilt speeds can be continuously adjusted from 0.02 degrees per second to 60 degrees per second. This allows flexible subject tracking and adapts to different production scenarios.
Up to 100 Preset Camera Positions
The FR7, with the supplied remote controller, dedicated Web App, and RM-IP500, can store up to 100 camera presets. You can recall presets with the touch of a button.
PTZ Trace for Highly Repetitive Camera Framing
The FR7 Ver.2.0 can record camera framing operations and replay them at the touch of a button. Up to 16 operation patterns can be stored for up to 180 seconds.
Reliable Autofocus for Remote Shooting
The FR7 locks onto fast-moving subjects quickly, even in low light, using 627 selectable phase-detection AF points and the powerful BIONZ XR processor.
Real-Time Tracking for Remote Shooting
With the FR7’s Web App, Touch Tracking activates autofocus on your chosen subject. This feature includes Real-Time Tracking, enhancing professional and efficient production.
Real-Time Eye AF for Remote Shooting
The BIONZ XR processor powers the FR7’s reliable AF performance. It can track an eye, even when subjects look up or down at a steep angle.
Electronic Variable ND Filter for Smooth Remote Operation
The built-in electronic variable ND filter allows you to control exposure from a distance. It adjusts smoothly from 1/4 to 1/128, making it easy to control depth of field while maintaining consistent exposure.
Breathing Compensation
The FR7 includes Breathing Compensation, which minimizes unwanted changes in angle of view. With compatible lenses, the angle of view stays consistent even during focus transitions, allowing for smooth and dramatic effects.
Tally Lights to Facilitate Multi-Camera Production
The FR7’s red and green tally lights indicate which camera is active (on-air) and which is in preview. This makes multi-camera setups more efficient.
Supplied Infrared Remote Controller
The infrared remote controller included with the FR7 controls pan, tilt, zoom, focus, and recording (with preset options available). It also handles playback functions.
Dedicated Ceiling Mount Bracket CIB-PCM1
The FR7 is compatible with the CIB-PCM1 ceiling mount bracket for easy overhead setup. When mounted upside down, the Web App automatically flips the control directions, ensuring natural operation.
