Full-Frame Image Performance

The back-illuminated full-frame Exmor R™ CMOS sensor delivers fast data readout, high sensitivity, and wide dynamic range. Its advanced color filter array improves color reproduction, while focal plane phase-detection AF provides precise and stable autofocus. The sensor supports an expanded ISO range up to 409600 and more than 15 stops of dynamic range, helping you capture clear motion in low light while preserving highlight detail. The BIONZ XR™ processor handles AF, image recognition, image adjustments, data transfer, the user interface, and other camera operations with high-speed processing and low latency.

Cinematic Video Recording

The FX3A records full-frame 4K QFHD at up to 120fps with autofocus. Its high-speed sensor readout enables full-pixel recording without binning for clear slow-motion footage up to 5x slower than real time. XAVC S-I All-Intra recording captures each frame independently at bit rates up to 600Mbps, making it suitable for complex motion and post-production workflows. The camera also supports DCI 4K at 4096 x 2160 and true 24.00p recording. XAVC HS uses MPEG-H HEVC/H.265 to provide 10-bit 4:2:2 video with high compression efficiency and manageable file sizes.

Professional Color & RAW Output

S-Cinetone™ provides cinematic color directly in-camera, with natural skin tones, controlled mid-range colors, and smooth highlight roll-off. Three S-Log3 shooting modes include Cine EI, Cine EI Quick, and Flexible ISO. Available LUT presets include s709, 709tone, and ITU709. The camera also offers Creative Look presets that you can customize through hue, color depth, brightness, contrast, and sharpness settings. For advanced post-production, the FX3A outputs 16-bit RAW data through HDMI at 4264 x 2408 resolution. Compatible external recorders can support formats such as ProRes RAW and Blackmagic RAW while the camera records XAVC HS 4K, XAVC S 4K, or XAVC S-I 4K and proxy files internally.

Autofocus & Exposure Control

Fast Hybrid AF combines focal plane phase-detection and contrast-detection AF for smooth tracking of moving subjects. AF Transition Speed and AF Subject Shift Sensitivity provide additional focus control. Real-time Tracking analyses color, patterns, and depth, while Real-time Eye AF helps maintain focus on people during solo shooting and gimbal-mounted work. Touch focus lets you select a focus point directly on the LCD monitor. You can also switch between shutter speed and shutter angle displays. Flexible Exposure Mode lets you control iris, shutter speed, and ISO independently, with lock functions that help prevent accidental setting changes. The front, rear, and top dials provide direct control of commonly used iris and ISO settings.

Efficient Workflow & Professional Audio

The FX3A supports proxy recording to create lower-bit-rate HD files alongside higher-bit-rate footage. Proxy files can use 10-bit XAVC HS at 1920 x 1080 or 8-bit XAVC S at 1280 x 720, helping reduce computer load during editing and previewing. A 10-bit HLG picture profile with BT.2020 wide-gamut color supports direct HDR playback on compatible TVs, with detailed shadows and highlights. The camera handle includes two independent full-size XLR/TRS combo connectors for professional microphones through the Multi Interface (MI) Shoe and supports recording formats including 24-bit 4-channel audio.
