Overview
Cinematic Expression
Full-Frame Image Capture Even in Dim Light
The FX3’s full-frame image sensor, combined with innovative light-gathering techniques, enables you to capture clear, usable images even in dim light. You can expand the standard ISO sensitivity of 80-102400 for movies up to an impressive 409600.
Wide Dynamic Range for Wider Creative Expression
The FX3 offers an exceptional 15+ stops of dynamic range, handling various settings—from well-lit interiors to mid-day outdoor shots, and even morning or evening scenes. This feature lets you capture every nuance and provides unprecedented cinematic freedom for colour grading.
Stunning Bokeh and Full-Frame Creativity
Capture the scene in stunning 4K resolution, with a shallow depth of field and beautiful bokeh, made possible by the full-frame sensor. This setup allows for unmatched cinematic creativity.
Cinematic Colour Science of S-Cinetoneâ„¢
S-Cinetone, developed for Sony’s acclaimed FX9, is the default look on the FX3, providing precise cinematic expression. The colour is finely tuned to meet the needs of today’s content creators, with rich tones and natural skin hues that seamlessly match other Cinema Line cameras without the need for grading.
4K 120fps with Every Frame in Focus
The FX3 captures detailed 4K imagery even at high frame rates, thanks to its high-precision autofocus and high-speed readout capabilities. The Slow and Quick (S&Q) mode gives you full control over the shooting frame rate, offering beautiful motion sequences at up to 5x slow motion (with 24p output).
10-Bit S-Log3 and HDR Recording for Smooth Gradations
With S-Log3 gamma and S-Gamut3.Cine, you can shoot with high-quality colour reproduction across a wide dynamic range. Matching footage from other Cinema Line cameras in post-production becomes simple. The HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) HDR profile enables direct HDR (HLG) playback on compatible TVs, eliminating the need for post-production.
16-Bit RAW HDMI Output for Advanced Workflows
For demanding post-production tasks, 16-bit RAW output is available via HDMI to compatible external recorders. Meanwhile, XAVC HS 4K, XAVC S 4K, or XAVC S-I 4K files, along with proxy files, are simultaneously recorded in-camera. RAW video output at 4264 x 2408 resolution exceeds DCI-4K.
Enjoy Rich Detail and Realistic Colour
The FX3 supports 4K internal recording, 10-bit depth, and 4:2:2 colour sampling with All Intra on top of Long-GOP compression. This setup allows you to push colour grades further while maintaining natural gradation, offering true editing freedom.
Compensation for Focus Breathing
When you enable the breathing compensation function, the camera stabilises your images during movie shooting with compatible lenses. This setting, available in software version 3.00 or later, records breathing metadata, which you can apply for post-production compensation using the latest Catalyst Browse/Prepare Plugin software.
Comfortable Solo Shooting
Dependable, Highly Accurate Autofocus
The wide-area autofocus with intelligent tracking uses focal-plane phase-detection for steady subject tracking across nearly the entire frame. The Fast Hybrid AF system delivers precise focus, even at shallow depths of field and high frame rates of 120p in 4K (QFHD).
Sophisticated Tracking AF for Steady Focus
Sophisticated tracking features ensure that your subject stays in steady focus, allowing you to concentrate on composition. Real-time Eye AF provides precise focus on faces and eyes, while Real-time Tracking leverages Sony’s unique AI-based subject recognition algorithms.
Smooth Transitions and Touch Focus Control
The FX3 offers seven AF Transition Speed settings, allowing you to easily create rack focus. Additionally, it provides five AF Subject Shift Sensitivity settings to control how AF switches or stays locked on a subject. You can also choose the subject to focus on by simply touching the LCD monitor.
Advantages of Sony’s Lenses for Video Shooting
Explore the four key advantages of using Sony’s E-mount lenses for video shooting. The combination of Sony lenses and cameras enhances your video creation experience.
High-Mobility Performance Wherever You Go
The FX3’s compact size and light weight make it perfect for high mobility. Its attached handle and cage-free accessory mounting holes enable quick setup, fluid shooting, and fast pack-down. Additionally, the lightweight magnesium alloy body enhances durability and performance in tough environments.
Attachable XLR Handle for Stable Camerawork
You can attach an XLR-equipped handle to the Multi Interface (MI) Shoe for more stable camerawork in challenging situations, such as low-position shots.
In-Camera Image Stabilisation for Smoother Footage
Active Mode provides a 5-axis optical in-body image stabilisation system that compensates for camera shake. This ensures stable video even when shooting hand-held, walking, or at 4K resolution.
Image Stabilisation and Easier Editing with Catalyst
The FX3 records camera-shake metadata, enabling you to smooth out handheld footage in post-production. With Sony’s Catalyst Browse/Prepare desktop application, you can easily balance automated shake compensation and image trimming.
Expandability and Operability
Front and Rear Tally Lamps
The front and rear tally lights on the FX3 indicate whether the camera is recording, ensuring visibility for both the operator and the subject.
Vari-Angle LCD Touch-Panel Monitor for Flexible Shooting
The 3.0-type LCD touch-panel monitor allows flexible positioning, improving visibility when mounted on gimbals. The touch-panel also offers intuitive control over camera settings.
Essential Controls for Efficient Solo Shooting
With six customisable buttons, and frequently used controls within easy one-handed reach, the FX3 lets you operate the camera effortlessly while keeping your other hand free for lens adjustments. Multiple screw holes on the body and handle allow for accessory attachment.
Uninterrupted 4K/60p Recording with Effective Cooling
The FX3 features an innovative heat dissipation system, optimising cooling even during long shoots. A heatsink, airflow structure, and silent cooling fan prevent overheating during 4K/60p recording.
XLR Adaptor and Digital Input for Quality Audio
In addition to the built-in microphone, you can connect professional external microphones via full-size XLR connectors on the handle, ensuring high-quality audio recording.
Dual High-Speed Media Slots for Seamless Recording
The FX3 supports CFexpress Type A cards, as well as conventional SDXC UHS-I and UHS-II cards. Two identical media slots allow for relay or backup shooting.
Wireless Monitoring and Remote Control for Streamlined Workflow
You can connect a smartphone or tablet to the camera via the Monitor and Control app, enabling wireless monitoring, exposure adjustments, and focus control on a larger screen.
Remote Preview, Shooting, and Streaming for Efficient Workflows
Wireless or wired remote shooting is available from a PC or mobile device with Imaging Edge Mobile, improving workflow efficiency during challenging shoots. Imaging Edge Webcam enables high-quality online video communication.
