Three XA (extreme aspherical) elements and advanced optical technologies deliver high resolution and contrast from the centre to the edges, even at the maximum F1.2 aperture. The optical design also helps reduce chromatic aberration while keeping the lens compact and lightweight.

Nano AR Coating II reduces internal reflections that can cause flare and ghosting. The coating supports clear, well-defined images in strong sunlight and backlit conditions. A floating focus mechanism helps maintain sharpness at different focusing distances.

Smooth Bokeh and Close-Up Focus

The F1.2 aperture creates a very shallow depth of field that helps isolate subjects with beautiful background separation. Three XA elements with 0.01-micron surface precision and carefully controlled spherical aberration support refined G Master bokeh. An 11-blade circular aperture produces smooth, rounded out-of-focus highlights.

The lens focuses as close as 0.4 m and offers 0.17x maximum magnification. Its floating focus mechanism and XA elements help deliver sharp close-up images with creamy F1.2 background bokeh for both stills and movies.

Fast AF and Professional Control

Four XD Linear Motors provide the high thrust needed to move the large focus groups quickly and precisely. The result is fast, accurate, and quiet autofocus and tracking, even with the extremely shallow depth of field created by the F1.2 aperture.

Two focus hold buttons can be customised through the camera menu. The aperture ring provides direct control, while its click on/off switch allows quiet aperture adjustments during movie shooting. Linear Response MF gives the focus ring a direct and precise manual response for stills and video.

Despite its large F1.2 aperture, the lens measures 87 x 108 mm and weighs 778 g. A dust- and moisture-resistant design supports outdoor reliability, while the fluorine-coated front element helps repel water, oil, and other contaminants and makes cleaning easier.
