Variable ND for Professional Matte Boxes

The Brilliant² 4×5.65″/138mm Variable Neutral Density Filter fits most 4×5.65-inch matte boxes and occupies two undivided filter stages. Its 12mm profile houses two precision 138mm circular polarizers, with one rotating and the other fixed, allowing smooth adjustment from ND 0.6 (2 stops) to ND 2.4 (8 stops). The filter installs in either direction, making setup quicker during production.

Premium Optical Performance

Lindsey Optics builds the filter using Schott B270 water white optical glass for excellent clarity. Broadband multi-layer anti-reflection coatings reduce flare, ghosting, and stray light while improving image contrast and color saturation. The glass remains exceptionally flat to prevent distortion and focus shift, even when paired with long focal length lenses. The large 138mm circular polarizers create a generous 5.1-inch clear aperture that supports wide-angle lenses and large zoom lenses.

Smooth Mechanical Control

Adjust density by turning either thumb wheel manually or by attaching a motor to the integrated 1/4″-20 mounting thread in the handle. The aluminum main gear rides on internal Delrin™ rollers for smooth, slip-free movement. Standard 0.8 pitch gear teeth allow seamless integration with motorized wireless remote systems. The circular polarizers feature quarter-wave retarders facing outward to eliminate unwanted scene polarization and prevent cross-polarization inside the camera. The filter also works with the Lindsey Optics RotaPol Polarizer when the RotaPol is positioned on the world side of the Variable ND, allowing independent motorized control of both polarization and neutral density through a wireless FIZ system.
