Sharp Detail And Smooth Bokeh

Two XA elements deliver high resolution across the image, including the edges. Two ED glass elements help reduce chromatic aberration, while Nano AR Coating II suppresses flare and ghosting to maintain clarity.

The lens creates smooth transitions from sharp focus to deep F1.4 bokeh. An 11-blade circular aperture, controlled spherical aberration, and XA elements help produce smooth bokeh while reducing onion-ring patterns. The minimum focusing distance is 0.85 m with AF and 0.8 m with MF.

Fast AF In A Compact Design

Two XD Linear Motors and high-speed control deliver up to 3x faster AF speed. Moving subject tracking improves by as much as 7x, helping capture subjects reliably even with the narrow depth of field created by an F1.4 aperture. The lens also supports the 120 fps capability of the α9 III with its global shutter.

At 642 g, the lens offers a 20% reduction in mass and a 13% reduction in volume compared with the previous model. Its compact 84.7 × 107.3 mm design supports agile shooting without compromising its large-aperture performance.

The lens supports Real-time Recognition AF with compatible α-series bodies for fast, precise, and quiet subject tracking. Minimal focus breathing and compatible body breathing compensation support refined movie production.

Linear Response MF provides direct manual focus control, while click-less aperture operation allows smooth and intuitive iris adjustments for filming. Two customisable focus hold buttons and an AF/MF switch add flexible control. The lens also accepts 77 mm threaded filters.

A dust- and moisture-resistant design supports reliable use in challenging outdoor conditions. The fluorine-coated front element helps repel fingerprints, dust, water, oil, and other contaminants. Sony also reduces the product’s environmental footprint across development, production, supply, and packaging, with plant-based non-woven fabrics used for product bags.
