The SEL300F28GM combines a large F2.8 aperture with a lightweight, well-balanced design. At just 1,470g excluding the tripod mount, it offers strong mobility for a large-aperture telephoto prime lens. Sony positions the lens weight away from the front to improve balance, reduce stress, and help minimize fatigue during long handheld shooting sessions. The design also supports agile movement and smooth panning.

G Master Resolution and Smooth Bokeh

Three Super ED glass elements and one ED glass element help control axial and lateral chromatic aberration. The lens maintains high resolution and contrast across the image, including toward the edges, which supports flexible cropping and editing. A shallow depth of field helps separate subjects from their backgrounds, while individual lens calibration optimizes bokeh quality. The 11-blade circular aperture contributes to smooth, rounded bokeh. Nano AR Coating II and carefully controlled internal reflections help minimize flare and ghosting for clear, crisp images.

Fast, Precise AF and Stabilization

Two high-thrust XD Linear Motors deliver fast, precise, quiet autofocus with low vibration. An advanced control algorithm precisely manages the large-aperture focus group with minimal delay. The lens maintains fast and accurate AF and AE performance during continuous shooting, even at F22. It also supports continuous shooting while panning and enables greater depth of field when stopping down. Fast, precise AF tracking remains available with the optional 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters.

Optical SteadyShot and Creative Control

Built-in Optical SteadyShot helps produce sharp handheld images at telephoto focal lengths. MODE 2 supports panned shots, while MODE 3 provides enhanced stabilization for dynamic and unpredictable sports action. Compatible camera bodies can use detailed body-lens communication to manage blur. A function ring can control Power Focus, APS-C/Full-frame switching, or preset focus functions on compatible bodies. The preset focus function is available with the α9 III.

Durable Professional Design

The dust- and moisture-resistant construction provides added reliability, while durable magnesium alloy internal components help increase durability and reduce weight. A fluorine coating on the front element helps repel fingerprints, dust, and other contaminants while making cleaning easier. The lens supports standard 40.5mm drop-in ND and other filters, along with Sony’s VF-DCPL1 circular polarizer. A lightweight, durable lens hood, dedicated vibration-protective soft case, and lens strap are supplied.
