HXR-NX800 4K NXCAM Camcorder

Sony HXR-NX800 combines a 1.0-type Exmor RS™ stacked CMOS sensor, BIONZ XR™ processing, 20x optical zoom, AI-powered subject recognition AF and built-in 2.4 GHz/5 GHz Wi-Fi. It records, streams and supports remote operation in a compact body.

4K HDR Image Quality

The approximately 14.0-megapixel effective 1.0-type Exmor RS CMOS sensor uses a stacked design with back-illuminated pixels and integrated signal-processing circuits. This design supports fast readout, high sensitivity and low noise. The camera records 4K up to 120fps and Full HD up to 240fps. Full-pixel readout and BIONZ XR processing capture fine textures and detail. 5K oversampling produces 4K 3840 x 2160 60p video. S-Cinetone, ITU709, 709tone, HLG Live, HLG Mild and HLG Natural provide broadcast and film-oriented base looks. The camera also supports easy color matching with Sony Cinema Line and system cameras.

AI Autofocus And Zoom

The AI Processing Unit uses human form and posture data to recognize people with high precision. Fast Hybrid AF provides 81% coverage and supports Subject Recognition AF and Real-time Tracking. Auto Framing can track a recognized person and keep them prominently positioned. Up to 10 compositions can be preset, while Ver.2.0 allows manual crop and framing adjustment through Monitor & Control Ver. 2.3. The 20x G Lens™ power zoom covers 24–480mm in 35mm full-frame equivalent. Clear Image Zoom reaches 30x in 4K and, from Ver.2.0, High Quality Digital Extender with Clear Image Zoom reaches 60x in FHD. Maximum apertures are F2.8 at wide angle and F4.5 at telephoto.

Flexible Production Workflow

Active Mode combines optical and electronic stabilization for smoother handheld footage. The Electronic Variable ND Filter ranges from 1/4 to 1/128, while Auto ND can maintain exposure automatically. The 3.5-type LCD provides approximately 2.76 million dots and supports multiple viewing angles. The 0.39-type OLED viewfinder provides approximately 2.36 million dots.

The NX800 weighs approximately 1.93kg and measures 175.6 x 201.3 x 371.1mm (W x H x D). For storage, its dimensions reduce to 175.6 x 175.4 x 285.1mm. The EVF and LCD panel fold away, and the microphone holder can be detached. Two control rings manage focus/zoom, while two dials control IRIS/ND Variable. Ver.2.0 also allows IRIS assignment to the zoom ring and Zoom assignment to the focus ring. The AUTO/MANUAL switch can engage Auto ND, Auto Iris, Auto Gain Control, Auto Shutter and Auto White Mode.

Recording options include XAVC S-I 10-bit 4:2:2 4K using Intra-Frame H.264, plus XAVC HS-L and XAVC S-L with 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 Long GOP recording. XAVC HS Proxy recording up to 16 Mbps can run alongside higher-bit-rate formats. Two memory card slots support CFexpress Type A and SDXC cards, with simultaneous or relay recording.

The camera records up to four audio channels through XLR inputs and the Multi Interface Shoe. Two channels can be adjusted with dedicated audio level dials. With the SMADP5 adapter, it supports Sony UWP-D Series systems. Built-in 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi supports streaming through compatible services and video-sharing sites using RTMP/RTMPS or SRT. C3 Portal, XDCAM Pocket, M2 Live and PDT-FP1 provide additional streaming and data-transfer options. UVC support from Ver.2.0 allows the NX800 to work as a web camera through USB.

The camera supports BP-U35, BP-U70 and BP-U100 lithium-ion batteries. With BP-U35, continuous operation lasts approximately 120 minutes. BCU1A and BC-U2A chargers support these batteries. The batteries can also be used with the PXW-Z280, PXW-Z190, FX9 and FX6.
