Motorised VND Matte Box

The Tilta Mirage Motorised VND Matte Box is a lightweight and modular matte box system designed for modern filmmakers and content creators. It supports cinema, DSLR, and mirrorless lenses while offering fast filter changes, motorised variable ND control, and flexible expansion options. Its aerodynamic design, compact build, and wireless operation make it an excellent choice for handheld rigs, gimbals, drones, and professional productions.

Lightweight Modular Design

The Mirage features an ultra-lightweight construction with a modular design that adapts to different shooting styles. It clamps directly onto cinema lenses with 95mm front diameters, including ARRI Ultra Primes and Leica Summicron-C lenses, and works with DSLR and mirrorless lenses using filter thread adapters. The aerodynamic body includes integrated vents that reduce wind resistance for greater stability during high-speed shoots. Optional accessories such as a protective front element, adhesive filter protectors, and stackable filter trays further expand the system.

Advanced Filter System and Motorised Variable ND

The Mirage supports both standard 4×5.65 filters and new lightweight 95mm circular filters, which weigh only one-quarter as much as traditional cinema filters. Its cartridge-style filter system allows quick installation with a single press. The optional Variable ND module uses PL and CPL optical technology to maintain accurate colours across ND 0.3 to ND 2.7 while built-in hard stops help minimise X-pattern cross shadows. The VND can be adjusted manually or wirelessly through the dedicated motor, offering remote control up to 100 metres. The wireless motor works with the included Wireless Controller and Tilta Nucleus Series Wireless Follow Focus Systems, while an optional wireless signal amplifier extends operating range for aerial productions.

Flexible Configurations for Modern Productions

The Mirage supports a wide range of circular effect filters, including star patterns, multi-coloured streaks, anamorphic flares, and black and white Pro Mist effects. The Wireless Controller mounts via a NATO rail and can operate both the Mirage wireless motor and compatible Tilta Nucleus M and Nano motors. When using the VND Kit, the included Nucleus Nano Motor Mounting Bracket allows direct installation of a Nucleus Nano motor onto the VND module. For the best optical performance, use ND 0.3–2.1 with wide-angle lenses and ND 2.1–2.7 with focal lengths above 35mm. Do not power the motor through USB-C while the 14500 power supply is attached. The Mirage motor can receive power from Tilta Side Focus Handles but cannot be controlled by them. The VND filter does not function as a polarizer in its normal orientation.
